Book Description

-Unbeknownst to everyone except his victims, Jeremiah Bernhardt has become one of the world’s most notorious serial killers. His drive stems from the misguided belief that the cosmos is directing him to rid the world of the unworthy so he can fulfill his ultimate destiny of immortality and become Supreme Chancellor of the World.

-Close on the trail of blood are two detectives who have suddenly become suspicious of the untimely death of Jeremiah’s mother after she was found in an alley with a blood-alcohol level over three times the legal limit, a bit high for a woman who supposedly didn’t drink. The discovery of Eileen Bernhardt’s diary proves a mother’s misguided belief in the goodness of her only child.

-Sitting in prison is Eric Marshall, charged with the murder of his girlfriend. All of the evidence suggests his guilt, but the accused has remained mute on the subject even though he was caught with blood on his hands. After many months of a self-imposed silence, he has finally agreed to speak on his presumed crime.

-Following her newly-developed intuition is eleven-year-old Olivia DeMers, who was diagnosed with mild autism at a young age. She has never spoken a word during her entire life, up until the moment she demanded her parents drive west. Her sole reason? “Murder”, she says to her parents, as if the answer should have been obvious to all involved.

How many victims must suffer at the hands of the peculiar Jeremiah Bernhardt?

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable February 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In a relatively short novel, Jason E Maurer delivers a helluva lot. Part cop procedural, part psycho thriller, part kooky - Haunted Mind, Confused Heart has it all. Maurer tells the story from the multiple points of view of the main players, all of whom are developed nicely, especially the antagonist who is wonderfully psychotic. A great fun read, though definitely not for the faint-hearted. I'm looking forward to more from Mr Maurer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunted Mind, Confused Heart July 8, 2013

Jason Maurer is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Haunted Mind, Confused Heart is a dark novella that will take you through the twisted mind of a killer. The diary formats that present themselves throughout the story are an interesting insight into the mother of a deeply deserved man. If you like your reads fast, dark, and thrilling...I suggest checking this one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! June 24, 2013

I liked "Haunted Minds, Confused Hearts" by Jason Maurer. The characters were realistic and I found myself sympathizing with them. The plot was very twisted! Every time I turned the page the plot became thicker and more interesting. I definitely didn't expect the ending! I would recommend this book for everyone except for young readers.

More About the Author

I started writing when I was eleven or twelve, when my mother bought me one of those cheap toy knockoffs of a laptop, but the good thing about it was the kid-friendly version of a word processor. Basic as basic could get, but I made my first attempt at writing a story, something cheesy about friends getting lost in the forest.

The things I write range from the tongue-in-cheek to the very serious. My goal is to write at least one story in each major genre.
