Book Description

September 2, 2011 Haunted America
An ominous air hangs about Capitol Hill's historic Croke-Patterson Mansion. Rumors of spirits and strange events have cast a shadow across its elegant Gilded Age facade. The lonely halls are haunted with stories of a doctor's wife who committed suicide and the ghostly figure of a young woman who appears to visitors. Tenants of the building have also claimed to hear the cries of children, and dark specters in the basement prevent even the heartiest souls from staying for too long. Join authors Ann Alexander Leggett and Jordan Alexander Leggett as they try to unravel the mysteries that have plagued this Denver mansion for over a century.

About the Author

Author, public relations specialist, designer and artist--these are just a few of the many hats worn by Ann Alexander Leggett. Her love of history and ghosts, however, has found its way into several of her projects and seems to have become a major part of her life. It can be a crazy day when switching gears from meeting about a major concrete construction project to lurking around haunted houses and cemeteries, but she balances it all--happily. Ghostly things that go bump in the night fascinate her, and she has apparently passed this attraction to the spirit world along to her daughter, who is coauthor of this latest book. Ann attended the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in journalism, and has lived in the Boulder area ever since. She is the coauthor of two other historically-based ghost books: Haunted Boulder and Haunted Boulder 2.

Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Jordan Alexander Leggett now spends most of her time in Seattle amidst a tumultuous relationship with the University of Washington. She is pursuing a major in English literature with a minor in classics, and she is currently plotting a contingency plan that doesn't involve living with her parents until she is gainfully employed and in her mid-thirties. Odd part-time customer service jobs are her specialty, and when she isn t working at a gym making protein shakes, she reads and re-reads such classics as Bleak House and Winnie the Pooh. Following in her mother's footsteps, she also devotes free time to other forms of art, as well as various blood sports such as rugby. She plans on spending quite some time in Seattle, her home away from home, but Colorado will always have a piece of her heart.

Having been born and raised in Denver, I've always had a fascination with Colorado history --especially the early history of Denver. In 1963, at the age of ten, two things happened which changed my life forever; I saw the movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," and I had my first encounter with a ghost. From that time on I was hooked on both the history of Denver, along with it's many ghosts.

Ann and Jordan Leggett bring together the history and hauntings of the Croke-Patterson-Campell Mansion in a manner that both history and paranormal enthusiasts can enjoy. Though it's rather longer on the history portion, this book sticks only to facts that can be verified, and does much to quash rumors which have developed over the years regarding both the history and hauntings of this beautiful gilded-age castle. Short, well written and to-the-point, I think anyone interested in history and hauntings will enjoy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Read, January 24, 2012

As a third generation native of Colorado, I love to read about the history of this state. And, it's also fun to read the stories of the strange. This book has it all.

Ann and Jordan did a great job of researching the history of this house and it's occupants. The history of the house, especially the paranormal history and experiences of occupants and visitors to the house made for a wonderful read. It was also interesting how they went about doing their research.

I especially love the photographs included in the book, not only the historical photos, but the ones taken by Ann. And, then, attending the book signing at the Mansion simply enhanced the whole experience, especially being able to see some of the key rooms and features, such as that mirror!

Anyone interested in hauntings and especially those in Colorado, needs to check out this book.

Enjoy!
