actually, the one about the old bermuda inn is very true. I worked there a few years back- and a lot of weird stuff happened. Every morning the chairs would be re-arranged on the tables even though we didnt put them in that order when we left at night. The picture that is hanging up by the staircase was just eerie- it really did feel like her eyes were stairing at you- i dont know, maybe I am just a believer and have a thing for old ghost stories-

This book is ok, but have seen better on topic of SI, it should have had just a little more info in it, great things listed in the book but not too much info about how or where this sightings have been documented and by whom? the sources of these sighting.

this was a pretty interesting book, but it lacks photographs of the places taked about and actual proof of the events claimed. Overall I think it was interesting to read, well written, I would have given it 5 stars if it would have had some nice photographs and some more proof about the hauntings claimed.

Although this book holds a lot of information, the stories are week and lack substance. I read the entire book in 3 hours (stopping for lunch). The source of the stories was limited, It lacked many popular stories I (being a native Staten Islander) heard as a child (The Dissoway ghosts, Lady by the well, Ghost dogs), and went with the stories made popular by the media. This book would be better as a childrens book.

I truly found this book to be wonderful. I was born in 1935 on S.I. I have so much info on all my family trees. I know all the houses that is in the book. I'M searching Stewart/Stuart, Winnants,Nye's,LakesI have heard from my Mother, grandparents about all the other names in the book. I enjoyed to see the pictures and about them. Of course most of my ancestries are long ago. I hope others check this book.

This pamphlet-size book is informative and well-written. However, I do wish the author had included a photo of the Vanderbilt mausoleum.

I think this book is great! The author is a talented writer and has illustrated the book with plenty of photos. Don't know how the previous reviewer missed them - he must have had his eyes closed! Can't wait to visit the places Ms. Macken writes about and P.S. it's kind of hard for an author to provide information that PROVE ghosts exist!

I lived in Staten Island, I have never heard of any of the stories in this book, although the author claims they are true. I doubt it. I think the book could have had some more pictures at least. Color Ones! Better as a fiction novel than true life stories. Cant take is serious.
