From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5 Chris Holt, 13, and his family are assisting a relative in repairing a recently purchased inn on an island, when they hear that the island is haunted by Amos Corley, who died 175 years ago. In fact, they hear the story from Corley himself. Chris eliminates the hauntings forever by using a tinder box, an old journal, a chest of clothing, and information he learned from a school report on pioneers. The story is quickly paced and well plotted. It is similar to but easier than Mollie Hunter's A Stranger Came Ashore (Harper, 1975) and should be popular with mystery fans.
