Book Description

Have the men who held the high-pressure job of running the nation become restless spirits, reluctant or unable to leave the world of the living? This book follows the nation's presidents chronologically, from George Washington to Ronald Reagan, with stories about their ghostly manifestations, their experiences with unexplained phenomena, and odd encounters involving members of their families. Readers will learn about Washington's phantom appearance at the Battle of Gettysburg, Dolley Madison's spirit in the White House rose garden, Andrew Jackson's encounter with the Bell Witch, Abraham Lincoln's prophetic dreams, the mischievous ghost of Franklin D. Roosevelt's dog Fala, Richard Nixon's spiritual conferences with dead presidents, and the odd demon cat that materializes prior to national disasters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of Presidential tidbits! November 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought I'd just glance through the book and read it later.. before I knew it.. I'd read the WHOLE book! lol The author really did their homework! From the first President, George Washington all the way to Ronald Reagan. The book is just full of little tidbits about every American President! Also included are known sightings of First Ladies and children.

I think the tidbit that astonished me most.. was finding out about Abraham Lincoln's son.. who was with two Presidents when they were shot.. and had opted NOT to go to the theater with his parents on the night his father was slain.. staying instead at the White House to catch up on some sleep and relaxation. The thing that really got me though.. was that he thought he was a jinx to Presidents.. finally passing away in 1925.. only to have President JFK buried within 70 yards of his grave.

One actually learns quite a bit about Presidential lives as well. How they loved. How they lived. Possible reasons for appearing at certain locations after passing. A very quick, easy read!

If you're someone that likes little unknown facts.. you really WILL enjoy this book!

This book does provide some very interesting stories. This is a good book if you are into the paranormal. I would recommend this book as a coffee table book as anyone can pick it up and look at it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Tales November 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One thing I will say about the least you got to learn all of the US Presidents and their terms. The book overall was ok. Like another reader stated, some sections could have been expanded and a little bit more historical background for some presidents could have been provided. Now will I go and visit some of the president's haunts? Maybe- you never know I might run to into one of the presidents or their first ladies!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good account of paranormal November 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked this book a lot. The first sentence in this book grabs your attention and makes you smile, considering the possibilities. I liked that the author did their research before writing this book and yet presented the material in such a way that it remained interesting. Many of the other books I have read that were about similar subject matter about bored you half to death by the third chapter or so. This book remained interesting from beginning to end.

I did feel (This is the reason for four stars rather than five,) that the author could have expanded some sections a little bit more. He pointed out that more people are likely to be interested in paranormal happenings of more popular presidents, and yet he only gave a couple of pages to some lesser known leaders and entire chapters to other, more well known presidents. I don't know if this is because the information just wasn't available or just not included because it was deemed as less interesting.

Overall I thought this was a well organized, impartial account of famous (and some lesser known) hauntings. Interesting book, recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO GOOD I READ IT TWICE August 8, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
But that doesn't necessarily mean I believe it. Well, maybe I believe some of it. After all, I grew up in south south south eastern KY and spent quite a bit of time with my great-grandmother who did believe in a few haints. Yes, I spelled that correctly.
I was taught that if I thought I was facing one I could say,"In the name of God...", and then ask what I chose: the tortured soul's name or reason for being there, for instance.
This book uncovers a lot of reasons for souls to be disturbed, but whoever said the Presidency was an easy job? I was most impressed by the background given for each man. So many of our past Presidents came from poor families.
Of course, the most famous ghost of the White House is Abraham Lincoln. I've often thought we could balance the budget by renting the Lincoln Bedroom, one night at a time. Of course a security guard or two would have to be posted by the door so the guest(s) don't wander in the night and it would probably be a good idea to move the good furniture to another room and buy new stuff. It wouldn't be beyond some guests to pull out a pocketknife and take home a token of their special night. Some might even carve their initials. I'd ask for a security deposity so large the guest could take the furniture with them, something from IKEA, not Ethan Allen.
(Pass that idea to your favorite congressman.)
Some of the stories didn't take place in D.C. The title of the book is Haunted PRESIDENTS. You might live close enough to check out some of these tales; fill a thermos or two with some hot coffee, pack some extra underwear and go for it!!

I enjoyed these short but informative tales of the presidents from Washington to Reagan. The ghost stories were good but I found the others tidbits about their lives to be the gems of this book.

It's a fun, quick read. Nothing earthshaking or thought provoking is contained in the book but it has entertaining moments for fans of this type of material (like me).
