Duntroon Castle
The castle, dominating a rock promontory on the north side of Loch Crinan, belonged to the powerful Clan Campbell in the seventeenth century. At this time, a rival chieftain known as "Left-handed Coll Macdonnell" had a personal score to settle with the Campbells of Duntroon and, having ravaged their lands, sent his personal piper to spy on the castle. The disguised piper was welcomed by the Campbells and he in turn entertained his hosts. Several days passed and his inordinate interest in the castles defenses aroused the Campbells suspicions, so they imprisoned him in a turret room.
