Memorable Reading, November 22, 2005
This review is from: Haunted Souls (Paperback)
This is the third book of a must series. Finally, the Irish vampire Ronan Kieran knows what he needs to do to defeat the ancient one -- find a mortal woman and make her fall in love with him. He detests the idea of using someone, but knows it's their only chance to defeat this horrible evil. Clarissa Gaines returns to Pine Forest for her own reasons, and because horrific visions have compelled her to try and save the city. It's lust at first sight when these two people meet in a cemetery, but can lust turn to love in time to stop a dark evil bent on destroying the town?
A long-time fan of Ms. Agnew's work, Haunted Souls does not disappoint. It is important to read the earlier books in the series to understand the relationships and the evil Ronan and Clarrisa fight, but that's no chore with her wonderfully evocative writing. The character depth makes Clarissa feel like a good, trusted friend. Ronan takes your breath away from his first appearance in the earlier books and proves he's a hero worthy of his own stories.
Lush descriptions of the haunted town made the tale delightfully spooky and a great fall read. I finished the book close to Halloween, and it was quite the atmospheric read. Her love scenes sizzle off the page, and the plot twists and turns will keep you reading long into the night.
A wonderful book by a wonderful author.

Characters and story were not interesting. Everything dragged. I skimmed a bunch. Sex scenes were boring., February 12, 2010
This review is from: Haunted Souls (Paperback)
STORY BRIEF:
This is the third book in a series. Clarissa is psychic and can see things in the past or currently. She left Pine Forest twelve years ago. Now she is back to take pictures of haunted places for her third book. In town there is an evil presence and two vampires. One vampire is evil and is called the ancient one. The second vampire is Ronan who is good and has been trying to kill the ancient one for years. A seer tells Ronan that the only way to defeat the ancient one is to truly love a human and get her pregnant.
REVIEWER'S OPINION:
Parts of the story were not realistic, for example: A and B are fighting. A is knocked unconscious. B needs a particular item to kill A. B has time to go get the item, but he doesn't. B just leaves the scene, and A wakes up later and leaves. C kidnaps D and plans to kill D, but for some strange reason it doesn't happen and D easily escapes. The final fight scene was not detailed enough or interesting. I also wanted more information about Clarissa, her psychic talents, her past, why she left the town, and her books.
Cover pictures are wrong. Cover girl has long black hair. Clarissa has copper penny red hair in ringlets down to her waist. Cover guy is wearing blue jeans. In the book Ronan wears black jeans and black dress slacks.
DATA:
Swearing language: strong, including religious words. Sexual language: strong with rear door activity. Number of sex scenes: 9, most of them a few pages long. Setting: current day Pine Forest, Colorado. Copyright: 2004. Genre: paranormal romance.

Ronan is one hot vampire, August 22, 2009
This review is from: Haunted Souls (Paperback)
I really enjoy Agnew's writing. She really does the paranormal action and sex scenes well. But the pacing and building of the relationships in her novels, in general is very good. I also appreciate that the plots are well thought out and the book length is usually 300 plus pages which I believes helps considerably. This is the 3rd book in this series which I recommend highly. I suggest that these books be read in order since the characters are recurring and the stories are connected. Also, Ronan (the hero) has been a shadowy back-figure in the previous books and finally gets his much deserved story in this final book. Ronan is one of the best alpha vampires around. Smoking hot! But just my opinion. Again, I recommend this series and Denise Agnew.
