Thirty-five gripping tales of ghostly
goings-on and other worldly encounters in theaters across North America and London

The hard part isn’t finding theaters that are haunted—it's finding theaters that aren’t! Haunted Theaters comprises thirty-five suspenseful stories of spooky visitations and supernatural happenings in historic theaters, opera houses, and other stages from Broadway to America’s many regional theaters, from Canada to London’s West End. Each tale is guaranteed to entertain—and have you clenching your teeth. Read about all this and more:

• Percy Keene, who was stage manager at the Grand Opera House in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from 1895 up until his death in 1967, still shows up for duty.

• Klondike Kate was known as the “Flower of the North.” No wonder the dancer, muse, and financier of vaudeville theater owner Alexander Pantages still visits her old dressing room at the Palace Grand Theatre in the Yukon’s Dawson City.

• The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London is the most haunted theater in England—some say, in the world.

A DEIGHTFUL READ

This book preempted a spot on my 'currently-reading' shelf, ahead of all those, twenty-four, books already waiting on my `to-read' shelf, not because I'm particularly fond of theater ghost stories (although I am an admitted theater buff); but because it is the first book I've ever encountered in which one of the dedicatees is a dear and personal friend. So, when former, longtime house manager of the Pasadena Playhouse, Betty Jean Morris, loaned me her own, inscribed and autographed, copy to read, it immediately catapulted to my 'currently-reading' shelf.

I'm glad it did.

Rife with theatrical trivia and show business lore, the thirty-five stories in Tom Ogden's, `Haunted Theaters: Playhouse Phantoms, Opera House Horrors and Backstage Banshees' are a delightful read. Well written, very readable and thoroughly entertaining.

Recommendation: If you like stories about show business and show business folks, you'll probably enjoy this book. I did.

Haunting have always fascinated me personally I think because I frankly believe in ghosts. I love theater and truly it is very interesting to learn about not only the ghost but the theater itself. Ogden does a fabulous job explaining particulars of the theater and those ghosts that are reputed to haunt it. He mentions not only Broadway Theaters but also regional theaters, operas, and London's West End Theater as well as Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera home Her Majesty's Theater.

Both books are very very interesting and written one of my favorite writers. I have several of his other books and love them all. Tom Ogden is a very funny and creative magician, writer and humorous. I completely enjoy his works in all those catagories.
