More About the Author

Have you ever read a book and wished you could write one too? Have you ever followed someone else's characters and thought you would have them behave differently? Well, that's how I was. I read and read and read, especially historical fiction, but I secretly yearned to write a title of my own. Strangely, it took my three-year-old daughter's urgent admission to hospital with meningitis to finally get me going. She was so ill and I was so distracted, that after a while my father gave me a little portable typewriter 'to help take my mind off things'. By the time my daughter Sarah came out of hospital, well on the road to recovery, my first book was also well on the road.

I wrote and wrote and wrote, standing in the kitchen on one leg like a stork, with the typewriter on a work surface while my daughter played around my feet. My first ten books were medieval historicals set in England, and since then I have mostly written in the English Regency period - for which living in Britain is a definite advantage! I love romantic stories, and if I can weave history, traditions, myths, legends and sometimes Gothic elements into them, I'm happiest of all. These were the sorts of story I couldn't get enough of before I became a writer, and I'm glad to say my readers like them too.

Sandra Heath isn't my only pen name, for you'll also find me as Sandra Wilson, Jeannie Machin and Sarah Stanley. Some of these titles you'll recognize from before, but some you won't. Most of my medievals were written as Sandra Wilson, and as Sarah Stanley I've produced two new sensuous Regencies, STAR-CROSSED SUMMER and MIDWINTER MARRIAGE, which follow the same characters and should be read in the order of the titles. I hope to follow them with two more in the same series, but at the moment I have so much else to write that it may be a little while.

Sooo, over sixty-five books after my first ever title, I'm still wearing out keyboards, and loving every minute of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Charming Regency Romance with Supernatural Overtones, September 1, 2002
This review is from: Haunting of Henrietta (Regency Romance, Signet) (Paperback)
I have been in love with romantic ghost stories since I was a little girl, and my grandmother told me how much she'd loved "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." Later, when I saw that film on the Late Show, it became not only one of my favorite love stories, but a favorite movie as well. While "The Haunting of Henrietta" isn't "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," Ms. Heath has still managed to create a novel that combines not only the usual outline of a Regency romance, but a story of the supernatural as well. In 1714, Jane and Kit fell in love and eloped, despite their families' disapproval, but instead of finding a lifetime of happiness, the couple meets a tragic fate. Due to an error by St. Peter, they are now doomed to walk the Earth, and can't enter Heaven until they manage to bring two members of their warring families together. They get their best bet in years when Henrietta and Marcus -- the exact images of their long dead ancestors -- meet at a New Year's Eve estate ball in 1814. What follows is not only the attempts of the ghosts to bring their descendants together, but of course the hero and heroine -- who had met before -- battling each other right and left, something we expect in a Regency novel. Also thrown into the mix are mysterious accidents, an enemy French ship, jealousy, attempted murder...and the occasional cameo appearances of St. Peter and Satan. Add Rowley, Kit and Jane's incorrigible little King Charles spaniel (also a ghost) and withheld passions, and you have a very unique romance. I read half of it on a flight home from vacation; finished the other half this weekend. It'll be a sweet story I'll reread in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific book!, October 1, 2002

This review is from: Haunting of Henrietta (Regency Romance, Signet) (Paperback)
St. Peter made a rare error. Now these two deceased lovers must earn their way into heaven. Their families feuded for a long time and their eloping and then dying made it worse. Now they must, somehow, make one person from each of their currently living relatives fall in love with each other!

Now the big, bad, red dude we all know is putting his nose into the poor couple's redemtion, as well as, ribbing St. Peter for his error, by putting conditions on the situation. They may not be seen by the living, nor speak with them. Their dog (also deceased and with them) CAN be heard, which causes problems. They can only haunt on years where snow falls on the day of January First ... and even then ONLY while the snow remains on the ground. Well, you get the idea.

Now the couple FINALLY has a sporting chance! The heroine is the only unmarried female on one side of the relatives. The devil realises they have a chance to make it all happen so he sends his evil agents to kill the heroine. Therefore, lots of "accidents" begin.

***** I thought the book was terrific! The ghosts were charming and sometimes the task of their mission was so difficult I could not help but wonder HOW IN THE WORLD they would ever win in the end! This book is humorous, romantic, and a real delight! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars a great ghost story, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Haunting of Henrietta (Regency Romance, Signet) (Paperback)
The only problem I had with the book was the mention of the christian view of the afterlife. Other than that it was great, and very funny.
