Book Description

9 and up
Following his New York Times best-seller Nightmare Hour, R.L. Stine, America's master of horror for middle-grade readers, has created another fantastically nightmarish collection of stories. These were written, as Stine says, in the hour "when lights fade, the real world slips into shadow -- and the cold, moonlit world of evil dreams takes over your mind." The stories in this new collection are illustrated with chilling black-and-white drawings by a variety of well-known illustrators. R.L. Stine's millions of fans will be screaming for more!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

R.L. Stine tells 10 haunting tales in The Haunting Hour: Chills in the Dead of Night, including one about a baby-sitter who practices a crafty form of suburban voodoo. As with his Nightmare Hour, a different illustrator introduces each story, among them Charles Burns, Art Spiegelman and Roz Chast.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stories that will make you scared, April 29, 2005
A Kid's Review
This is a collection of R.L. Stine's spookiest stories. And some of them are really scary. My favorite story that scared me the most was "Losers" because i want to remind the bullies at my school, IF THEY CALL ME A LOSER, THEY'RE GONNA BE HUMILIATED ONE DAY. Because it's a about kids who disrepect other kids, and what happens to them? They become the laughing stock of the carnival.

STORIES:

Halloween Dance: Creepy, talking about what happens when you die 8/10
The Bad Babysitter: Wierd, but enjoyable. About a babysitter who hurts kids with a making a minature cookie that looks like their face

And there's alot more. But I'm not gonna give it away. Good book, read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stine creepers beware!, March 7, 2002
A Kid's Review
This book is full of spooky tales! R.L. Stine writes the tales of this book. Here are the chapters "The Halloween dance," "The Bad baby sitter," "Revenge of the Snowman," "How to bargain with a dragon," "The mummy's dream," "Are we there yet?" "Take me with you," "My imaginary friend," "Losers," and "Can you draw me?" These tales will haunt you forever. The Halloween dance is about these kids who got hit a by a truck but they thought they didn't know they did, so this other kid came and told them there was a huge mansion with a party about to start. The three kids went to a graveyard then a big gust of wind came and suddenly thousands of hands come flying out of their graves the two kids want to run away but the other kid told them to stay for the "dead" party. To find out what happens next you need to read the book!!
