Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

"Barbara's gift for storytelling holds in the written word just as it does before a television camera." --Phillip J. Jones, Secretary of Louisiana's Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism "The Haunting of Louisiana is told in a cinematic style well suited to books about ghosts and their habitats, especially when those habitats include some of the state's finest and most romantic locales." --Blue Iris Journal Louisiana's haunted reputation is spotlighted here in twenty chapters about the ghostly escapades and unexplained happenings at various historic homes, plantations, and other sites throughout the state. Based on the PBS documentary that aired across the country, here are many of the stories that would not fit into the one-hour television program. Also included are behind-the-scenes incidents that occurred during the taping. Barbara Sillery is a television producer, writer, and co-owner of Keepsake Productions, Inc., which specializes in award-winning cultural documentaries. She has always been fascinated with the "ability of souls of the dead to return for the occasional visit," and continues to bring the past into the present through her tireless work. Danielle Genter, one of her three daughters, contributed photographs to the book. Sillery's business partner, Oak Lea, an award-winning photographer, was nominated for a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award for directing The Haunting of Louisiana. The film also received a national Telly Award and two Worldfest Awards.

From the Back Cover

"To those who may be encountering Louisiana for the first time through these wonderful stories-prepare to be engaged and entertained to a degree to which you are certainly unaccustomed . . . Barbara's gift for storytelling holds in the written word just as it does before a television camera." -Phillip J. Jones, former secretary of Louisiana's Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism "A personal, anecdotal narrative that paints events with evocative descriptions . . . The Haunting of Louisiana is best savored in slices-it serves up a great bedtime read." -New Orleans Times-Picayune The haunted reputation of Louisiana is spotlighted in twenty chapters that cover the ghostly escapades and unexplained happenings at various historic sites throughout the state. Based on the Telly Award and WorldFest Award-winning PBS documentary of the same name that aired across the country, The Haunting of Louisiana is a showcase of many of the stories that would not fit into the one-hour television program. More About the Author

Television producer and writer Barbara Sillery has a passion for words and is willing to follow a tale where ever it takes her - if a ghost or two happen to wander by it's lagniappe - an intriguing bonus. The Haunting of Louisiana is based on a PBS documentary of the same title [DVDs available on Amazon]. The book includes behind-the-scenes "activities" that happened to the crew during production as well as a few ghost tales that did not make it into the documentary. The ghosts within are based on real characters who have no intention of leaving these haunted sites. Enjoy!

Seemed more like a historical documentary, but the information was indeed very interesting. The interviews were informative. I would recommend to anyone doing research into Louisiana folklore.

I think the video was very well done. Being from New Orleans it has special interest to me having been born in the French Quarter. Before Katrina the Haunted Tours weere very popular. Even with us locals. Anyone who has taken the tour will especially like the video.
