Amazing!,

I happened upon this CD by chance, following customer lists and suggestions until I stumbled upon something I never had any idea existed. I decided to pick it up as a total impulse buy, the cover and track names being what hooked me. Once it arrived it was everything I had hoped it would be - a hilarious cover insert and some awesome instrumental surf rock! Honestly, I wasn't really into surf before I got this (except for the Go-Nuts, who ALL of you should buy immediately after reading this review). Now, after owning it for less than a week I find myself fighting the urge to stand up and do the Ghastly Stomp right here in my cubicle as I listen to it as my morning ritual. This is an amazing, amazing CD, and I'll recommend it to anyone who likes surf rock and appreciates bands that don't take themselves too seriously. Five stars, no question about it!

The Ghastleys are BACK!,

If you find this album, buy it. 'Nuff said. And just so's you know, the Ghastley Ones are back with a fourth member on Organ. I caught them at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood a few months back and they sound as spooky as ever. Catch them if you can or pick up their new B-sides disc "All Plastic Assembly Kit" or keep an eye out for a 7" vinyl (Flying Saucers Over Van Nuys) and a new studio album due out later this year. Should be filled with spooky surf goodness!

If the Cryptkeeper were to start his own surf rock band, it would most likely be The Ghastly Ones. These guys play some good surf rock, but instead of conjuring up images of surfing, beaches and everything California, this stuff will make you think of 60s horror films-old B&W footage of graveyards, hearses, creepy mansions and dancing go-go girls in zombie attire. The kind of nostalgic images that Rob Zombie has brought back into the public eye with his work, so it's no surprise that the Ghastly Ones are on Rob's short lived Zombie A Go-Go records label. Haunting is a short album consisting of tunes that never quite reach the 3 minute mark. After every two songs or so there's a skit track. It's a cheesy story of The Ghastly Ones paying a visit to the lab of mad scientist Dr. Diablo. These skits are quite corny, but they're harmless and suit the image and tone of the album. This is the only cd The Ghastly Ones have put out coz they broke up awhile later(of course there are now internet rumors that's it's only a hiatus, and they may get back in action soon). They did manage to record a song for the Spongebob Squarepants cartoon though. If you're not into surf rock or think these guys must sound like Rob Zombie coz they're on his label, I'd steer clear. If you like surf music, this is a good buy if you want to check out the dark side of surf. It's now out of print and not the easiest thing to find(unless you want to pay an outrageous price for it online), but if you happen to see it around for a decent price, you'd better pick it up if you know what's good for you. The Ghastly Ones may no be considered the best surf rock band out there, but they gotta be damn close.

The Ghastly Ones are, sadly, not performing together no more. Although they can be considered a one hit wonder, they showed so much promise with A-Haunting We Will Go-Go. Especially with the guitarist Dr. Lehos, whose playing is just incredible and exhilarating to listen to. Baron Shimmy Shivers is another piece of the puzzle, he drums so elegantly and he just shows how great his version of instrumental spook surf is, while at the same time adding the occasional vocals in their songs. And the last member of this trio is Sir Go Go Ghostly which adds the bass guitar to The Ghastly Ones.Even though the general plot of the album is deemed 'cheesy', it just adds a fun and intresting feel to the music. These tracks are put in an order that seems to go with the story line, for example: after Pacific Ghost Highway, The Ghastly Ones start playing Haulin' Hearse. Although I see how some people might see this as a horrible piece and waste of space, I don't see the reason why it should be put down as a mediocre album if they seem to enjoy the music. As long as the music is enjoyed then the album is enjoyed just as much. This one and only album by The Ghastly Ones is just as great as other surf bands that are out there, even though their theme was mainly Halloween. Taking all of this into account, the first and only album ever produced by The Ghastly Ones is one of the great albums put out in the 90's and ever for that matter. Although it is not expected to be held with the same esteem if a person doesn't enjoy listening to instrumental surf music.

This is a great CD. The music is a mix of classical instumental surf and cult horror, and the result is a diobolic monster of absolute beauty. The girl at the end says it all: "Geepers creepers, those Ghastly Ones sure know how to make a go-go ghoul shimmy shiver."

Greetings fiends! This ghoulish band has surfed their way from the grave since 1998 to feast upon the music scene. They dub themselves as "The Ghastly Ones", taken from the 1969 b-movie flick of the same name (surprise, surprise). Dressed as undertakers, The Ghastly Ones deliver a frightfully entertaining trip through guitar instrumentals and even some campy "skits" of their own. This album has been with me since my high school days and people always found it weird that my favorite band wore costumes and played surf music. This album is off of Rob Zombie's now-defunct record label "Zombie A Go-Go" records, and you can even spot Rob Zombie as Dr. Diablo and his wife, Sheri Moon, as a Go-Go Ghoul in the album's artwork. Great campy fun for those who enjoy it. Surf's up!

this is one of the greatest albums ever made. i have so many fond memories attached to this brilliant piece of spook-show bliss. two examples are the time i helped my mom clean out the basement, and the time my friends and i sped down the highway to get fitted for tuxedos. i first heard this cd drunk in my friends attic about 9 years ago and its stayed in my head ever since. i think he found it for a quarter at record exchange.

Music Good........"Plot" Bad!,
This review is from: A-Haunting We Will Go-Go (Audio CD)
Ok, so I bought this album for the Disneyland: Haunted Mansion cover. I was'nt disappointed. Cool take on theme, musically. However the little storyline voice overs are awful. Unpollished and far from clever, these little audio bits fail. If only they had dropped a couple of bucks to bring in some cool voice over actors, it would have been a complete and cohesive success. Ah well...nice try.
