Large squirrel cage,

This review is from: Havahart 1077 Live Animal Professional Style One Door Squirrel, Rabbit, Skunk, and Mink Cage Trap (Lawn & Patio)
The trap works. However, I needed to make the trigger more sensitive, place the bait directly behind the metal plate, and also put additional weight on top of the trap. Smart squirrels will shake the trap and cause the bait to fall out of the holes. (without entering the trap). The weight on top (like a heavy brick or concrete block) will keep the squirrels from stealing the bait without entering. The trap is very sturdy with a strong spring---once closed the animal cannot escape.

Sure Fire Squirrel Trap,
By
This review is from: Havahart 1077 Live Animal Professional Style One Door Squirrel, Rabbit, Skunk, and Mink Cage Trap (Lawn & Patio)
This trap design works great. It is strongly built and with the simple and robust spring door, the squirrel is not going anywhere until ready for release. The protected handle allows for safe transfer. The trap trigger mechanism can be made more sensitive by setting the door catch closer to the end of the trigger wire. Additionally, adding a dab of oil to the trigger and door catch surfaces will make it sure fire! As noted in another review, the trap is light and a full grown squirrel can easily tumble or move the trap to get at the bait. A simple remedy is to weigh it down with a brick but in my case, I used metal ballast. To insure the bait is not easily reached from the outside, I used a block bird feeder cage at the bait end of the trap, also weighted down. This allowed me to use sunflower seeds along with raw peanuts dipped in cream peanut butter. Recommend placing the trap on flat surface such as a piece of plywood larger than the cage for greater stability when using on grassy area or exposed ground. We feed wild birds so squirrels are unavoidable and can be pesky. In one month we've caught and safely relocated 27 squirrels. Also caught and released two doves and one blue jay due to over sensitivity of the trigger mechanism.
