The World's Most Advanced Wireless Dog Fence

Shape it to your yard with the Custom-Shape Havahart Wireless Dog Fence--the world's most advanced do-it-yourself, dog containment system. This is the first wireless dog fence that can form virtually any shape. Endless fence possibilities mean more safe space for your dog to roam. The size of the wireless dog fence can range from less than 1/2 acre up to 25 acres. With the ability to create 4 custom Exclusion Zones, you can keep your dog out of designated areas such as a large garden or pool.

Custom-Shape Havahart Wireless Dog Fence

Capable of containing up to 2 dogs, the system can be installed without any digging or professional installation. Simply place the 4 bases, which contain new breakthrough technology, in the 4 corners of your home and use the intuitive touch screen controller to set up, activate, and manage your fence with ease. Access the online Wireless Fence Tracker installation tool to view the location of your fence on your PC. In less than 2 hours, you can have your wireless fence up and running and begin training your dog.

Safety Made a Top Priority

With a safety shut-off for the correction cycle included as a standard feature, Havahart Wireless made the safety of your dog a top priority. With one tone-only and five different static correction levels, you can choose the correction level that is best for your dog. The correction cycle persists until the dog returns 10 feet back inside the Roaming Area or until the safety shut-off feature activates after 30 seconds. Unlike an underground wire fence, the Custom-Shape Wireless Dog Fence will not correct your dog for returning back into the Roaming Area.

Small, Flexible System

Each of the 4 bases is small and sleek to allow for ideal yet discrete placement in your home to maximize the Roaming Area of your dog. Unlike an underground wire fence, the system can be reconfigured to a different shape at any time if you alter the landscape of your property, and it can be taken with you if you move.

Digital Set-up and Digital Alerts

The easy-to-read touch screen Controller walks you through the set-up. Use the controller to record where you want your fence boundary and Exclusion Zones to lie and customize correction levels for up to 2 dogs in just a few simple steps. The controller also provides boundary breach and low collar battery alerts so that you can keep track of what is most precious to you.

Fence Tracker.

Wireless Fence Tracker

The Wireless Fence Tracker installation tool is the world's first internet-based application that actually allows you to see the location of your fence boundary and Exclusion Zones on your PC. It is very helpful with testing the location of your wireless fence boundary. Simply visit HavahartWireless.com on your Windows-based computer to securely access the Wireless Fence Tracker.

Cutting Edge Technology Makes Constant Communication Possible

The Havahart wireless collar, controller and bases each contain a nanoLOC TRX 2.4 GHz transceiver chipset that enables constant communication between the components through radio signals. While other brands utilize similar technology, Havahart Wireless was able to push the nanoLOC TRX to a higher level of performance using NASA data filtering technology and some of its own complex math.

Roaming area
Custom-shaped roaming area.

NASA filtering technology and a boost in strength to each of the bases allows each signal to better penetrate through walls and other material objects to communicate with the wireless collar. To avoid signal blockage from your dog, Havahart Wireless strategically placed the antennas inside the Collar strap. This ensures that the antennas can rest on the sides of your dog's neck and have enhanced communication with the system. Constant, reliable wireless communication between the Bases and the Havahart Wireless Collar enables the system to pinpoint the real-time location of your dog and determine whether your dog is inside or outside your fence boundary. Should your dog ever breach the fence boundary, he will not get corrected on the way back in because the system knows his location.

The complex math allows the system to form virtually any shape of fence boundary to contain your dog. It also allows you to create up to 4 custom-shape Exclusion Zones to keep your dog out of designated areas. Exclusion Zones must be a minimum of 12 feet by 12 feet in size and cannot be within 20 feet of the bases or fence boundary.

Additionally, the fence boundary and Exclusion Zones were designed to have a wider Trigger Zone to keep your dog safe inside the Roaming Area and away from danger. When your dog moves into a Trigger Zone, the Bases send a signal to the collar to tone or make a correction based on settings you have chosen. Exclusive Integrated Motion Sensor Technology was also added to conserve Collar battery life when the collar is not moving.

Training Your Dog: Program Overview

Proper training of your dog is the most crucial element to ensure the safe and successful operation of your Havahart Wireless Dog Fence. Below is an overview of the Havahart Wireless training program. It is important that you follow the Instruction Manual and complete the entire training process without skipping any phases. Proper training is your most valuable key to success.

  • Keep your sessions short and frequent--approximately 15 minutes long, 2-3 times a day.
  • Be firm, consistent and patient.
  • End sessions with lots of playtime and praise.
  • Have fun!
Preliminary training
Preliminary Phase: Flag Awareness Training (Optional)

This phase allows your dog to become familiar and comfortable with the Training Flags. Your dog will wear the Havahart Wireless Collar, but the wireless electric dog fence should be turned off.

Phase 1: Passive Training (Days 1-3)

Set the Havahart Wireless Collar to Tone-only to introduce your dog to the Trigger Zone of the fence boundary (and Exclusion Zones if installed) and teach him to move away from the flags upon hearing the tone.

Phase 2: Active Training (Days 4-7)

Set the Havahart Wireless Collar to a low static correction level to help discourage your dog from going beyond the Trigger Zone.

Secondary phase
Phase 3: On-Leash Distractions (Days 8-11)

Teach your dog to ignore distractions that might tempt him to go outside beyond the Trigger Zone.

Phase 4: Off-Leash Supervision (Days 12-15)

Similar to on-leash distraction training, this phase take things one step further by removing the leash. This phase will encourage your dog to move freely within the Roaming Area.

Phase 5: Dog Monitoring (Days 16 and Beyond)

Your dog should be comfortable within the Roaming Area and reluctant to cross into the Trigger Zone with or without distractions. You should keep an eye on your dog after completing the training and monitor his behavior. Further training may prove to be necessary. After three additional weeks of successful dog containment, you can begin to gradually remove the training flags by taking away every other flag, every few days.

Remember every dog is unique and may respond differently depending on age, size, temperament and ability to learn. Adjust your training accordingly.

Amazing June 9, 2011
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I have to admit, I had some big expectations from this item just from the description I glossed over, but when I actually received and opened it, and then set it up, I kept saying, "Wow, this is just awesome."

This is being used by a dog that's already had a wireless fence system, so the dog's already been trained to recognize flags and know how they, and the warning beep, operate. The wireless fence this replaced was a base unit that simply sent out a single expandable circumference circle as an allowed area for roaming. As neat as that concept was, it seems totally ancient and limiting compared to this unit.

Flags - they ship a ton of flags, I think there were 75 in the box. Definitely can clearly mark out a good area for the dog to run.

Unpacking, and everything was packaged very well, and there was a lot of stuff in this little box. Only other thing I've ever seen packaged with so much in such a minimal space was Apple's products.

The instructions are laid out quite well. The quick setup guide gives what you need to know, and, for people like my mother who tend to want more detail, the full guide had very well fleshed out step by step instructions.

This is set up in a condo unit, so only half the house is available for the base units. I was able to get them at the far corners except for the garage, since there was only one outlet, so that one is actually not out to the fullest corner. And, Murphy's Law at work, that's also the corner where I wanted the most extension away from the house, since that's where the mailboxes are on the street, and I wanted to be able to let the dog get down there to help check the mail.

They give a hook fastener system, one side that sticks, the other side with hooks. One goes on the wall where you want to mount it, the other goes on the base unit, and then push it together so the hooks engage. It actually holds up very well, and was easy to remove the unit and put back without the sticky part peeling off the wall. This wasn't drywall in three areas, but a textured surface that was painted, so it wasn't smooth, had some roughness and slight variation in the surface, but that posed no problems. And the power adapters for the base units have a good amount of wire on them, so there's a lot of flexibility for placement of the device even when there's not an outlet within a few feet of the mounting point.

Once that was done, got the PC online and created the havahart account, and got it up and running, ready to do the bases. This was where I hit the ONLY snag in the whole process. No matter what I did, the setup routine would not see the main base unit. I eventually worked through some of the security settings, changing things like Active X and such from "disabled" to "prompt" so at least if it was something that wasn't being installed properly, it would nag me. I never did get a prompt, but at one point one of those setting changes was all I needed and suddenly the setup routine on the webpage came to life, found my unit.

Now, the wireless unit you use for setting the fenceline and programming is charged via a USB connector, cable and wall outlet adapter supplied. I had charged it fully a week or so before, so had expected it to be charged still, but it was not. So I had to pause for 5 minutes or so to let the wall charger juice it up a bit. I didn't get it fully charged (wanted to get everything set up before the rain started), but was able to charge it a bit between steps and worked fine. So make sure you let it charge right before you are doing the setup so it doesn't bleed the charge before use.

Setup was almost insultingly easy once you start. I had expected a little more complexity before I actually received the product, and there's really nothing complex about it.

Plug the master base in, let the software find it. And then it tells you to go to the next one to the right (activating them clockwise). Plug that one in, comes online, tells you to go to the next, and that's it, you've got the base stations set up. From unboxing to stations online was only about 5 minutes, including the time to decide the best location both technically and aesthetically.

Once that was done, you need to plan the area. Since this is a condo, there's no difficulty since a marsh on one side and another condo on the back side pretty much determined the layout. Got the flags in place and then it's the next step, setting up the actual field with the little wireless transmitter.

You go to the "start" flag, hold the unit waist high over the flag, and start. Then slowly move it the whole path of the fence. When you're done, it'll announce if it was successful, and you'll see on the laptop screen the layout you just did.

I had thought I could just "end" it against one of the side walls on the condo, and the "start" was at the end of a privacy fence that separated the patios of the two units. And that's initially what I set up, but when I was taking the collar around to test the boundaries, I got shocked (forgot to hit APPLY when I set the collar to tone only) on the patio by the door where the dog will be let out. That's when I understood that it "completes" the enclosure by connecting the end point to the start point. In my case, that meant a line that passed right through the patio door, which meant the dog wouldn't even be able to get out the door without a shock. So I changed the start and end points so that the line it makes to connect the two actually passes through the condo on the other half of the building. Problem solved. The dog can go all over inside the house without even a warning beep, and now won't get beeped or shocked when going in and out of the house...

Once I recreated the new fence (and it really is easy, on the wireless unit you just delete the fence, and then create a new one) and walked around with the collar, this time it was exactly what I wanted. And this was where I was so totally impressed. It would sound the warning before hitting the actual "line", and the light turned red right ON the line. Every single time, at every point around this oddly-shaped area I created. The accuracy just blew me away. I was expecting some variance, a little "wiggle room" for interference and such. But that light never turned red until I was exactly passing over the point I laid it out. And it never failed to do so.

The screen on the handheld wireless unit you're using to set this all up then also is how you make setting changes and see status. It will tell you when the zone is activated. It lets you rename collars, so it's easy to just touch the name of the collar, pick to change the correction level, and change and apply. All simple, all easy, all intuitive. And with clear feedback if you're paying attention (which I wasn't the first time I tried to set the collar to tone only and ended up zapping myself when I realized I needed to change my fence layout).

And the exclusion zones are just as easy to set up and define. Unfortunately there's not enough room in the back for there to actually be an exclusion zone without having the dog pressed up against the house from the proximity warning she would get as soon as she stepped outside, but with the playing I did before removing it and keeping the oddly shaped zone I have, there were no problems.

I was impressed that the collar came with two batteries, only one needed at a time, and they're rechargeable and it came with the charger. That was a nice change from the other units I've had that just used alkaline or something, and needed to be replaced. The hand held unit tells you the battery level as well, so you know when to change it out and put the depleted one on the charger. No need to be without.

Fortunately this labradoodle already knew the fence / flag concept, so once the setup was done, I was good to go, other than waiting for the dog to learn the new layout (new condo, so this is all new territory for her, she doesn't have any old layouts to unlearn in this location) and taking the flags down sometime in the future after she's gotten used to her new home. Since she already knows the tone means she needs to stop, I could've probably done without the flags but I feared that might leave her not knowing about the "corridor" down the side of the condo to the front yard, so at least the flags give her the visual idea on where she can get to. Since she was limited by a leash until now for the short time she's lived here, I wanted to have as many visual cues as possible.

The price on this is an eye opener, but considering the power and flexibility of this system, it's certainly the best example in a wireless fence of "You get what you pay for." Simple to set up, quick, nothing outside at ALL (once the flags are gone), and just a brilliant concept and execution of engineering... There is no way, even with a wired system, I could have done this layout since part of it goes into the street (to allow that 10' buffer zone to not sound an alarm when she's at the edge of the property by the mailbox), crosses a driveway, and actually passes through the neighbor's condo area... The ease of being able to simply walk around the property to delineate a boundary, this accurately, amazes even someone who's in the technology field like myself. And

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I think this invisible fence system is a fantastic invention and pretty well executed, just beware before purchasing that this will work best for a specific household with specific needs. The technology involved here is impressive. You can customize this fence to your property, integrate it with your computer, and the fact that it goes up to 25 acres with coverage is just amazing. This would be an ideal dog fence for those in rural properties, who have acreage and dogs that need to be kept safe.

Unfortunately this system wasn't ideal for our house because of our metal siding. Though Havahart does say in the product description that metal siding can cause issues with the receivers, so we knew in advance. If you have metal siding on your house, this system is not for you. Our yard is small and fenced, but we've had problems with our dogs jumping our 4ft picket fence and escaping. When it did work, despite our metal siding, the product worked well and as described. We were thoroughly impressed.

The set up was done by my husband, who is very technically minded and computer savvy. He reported the setup was time consuming, but relatively easy. When properly set up and working, however, we both felt the time invested in the setup was well worth it.

I have to admit when I first opened the package and saw the size of the prongs sticking out of the collar, I freaked out a little bit. We have small dogs, Italian Greyhounds, who have very fine coats - the huge prongs would NOT work with our dogs. Though I could see how they'd be perfect for large dogs with thicker coats. However, I was pleased when I realized a second set of the prongs are included, which are meant for small, fine-coated dogs such as mine. Havahart seemed to think of everything for this system.

Our dogs are small and nervous, too, so I also liked the various settings available for the dogs. The collar doesn't just shock, it also can be set to simply issue a warning beep. There are four levels: beep, minor shock, medium shock, and heavy shock. Having worked with animals before at animal shelters, I high recommend consulting your veterinarian before assigning a shock level for your dogs. For our Italian Greyhounds, the beep has been plenty. I think a shock would send them into a nervous breakdown.

This system is also for the dedicated dog owner, you have to be willing to put in the time and effort to properly train your dog in order to get the best results with this fence system. White flags are included for this purpose, and you can expect a few weeks of training until your dog can be trusted and left on his own before being able to fully trust this invisible fence.

As I stated earlier, this technology is just so cool. Another reviewer stated that this is the future of pet ownership, and I have to agree. This system is cutting edge and seems very well designed. Although we haven't been able to use it with 100% success due to our metal siding, we still recommend this product to those who can make the most of it. Again, I think it's ideal for those with unfenced or fenced property, no metal siding, a trainable dog (any vet will agree, some breeds are more easily trained than others), and a dedicated dog owner.

I purchased the custom wireless fence to cover our 1 acre lot. When the product arrived I spent an hour installing the bases and could not get them to load due to software problems with their fence tracker program. After we over came that it took another two hours of customer support to discover one of the 4 bases was defective. 10 days later I received a replacement system which installed correctly but after appropriate set-up the collar kept activating in the center of my yard far away from the fence borders. I confirmed the fence was correctly placed using the fence tracking program and re-installed the fence 5 times with continued, random collar alarms throughout by yard. Product worked very inconsistently and left me concerned by dog would be shocked sporadically thought the day despite it being in the center of my yard...
