5.0 out of 5 stars diamond in the rough, April 23, 2005

This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
this is an amazing album. These gutsy guys know how to have a great time making unheard of music. At least in the Christian scene. Music like this is rare and wonderful to listen to. Full of whimsy and lightheartedness at times and others times a whole different feeling overtakes you. I could go on. But trust me if your looking for something that breaks the mold. This is it and it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Havalina has fun in an easygoin' shuffle, March 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
What do you think when you hear "swing"? Do you think hepcats and porkpie hats? Do you think down South, railroads, and art-deco jazz? Matt Wignall and Co. says you should. This disc is a back-porch kind of journey, an easy-going shuffle. Havalina doesn't get ruffled, even though their music can hit the blues (Things), and they can throw out a couple jams (One Day, Train Song). One Day, by the way, is an awesome romp of a track, with Wignall mumbling and crying out his way through an old-time rocker. If it had been cleaned up and given some more tracking, it might've been a radio hit. Thank goodness it wasn't, though, and the whole disc stays true to their unique sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would take credit for this CD if you guys hadn't already, March 24, 1999

This is the most incredibly classic and original CD I have ever heard. I was at thier first ever show in Canada and I loved the songs they played from the first CD. Keep up the good work boys (and Lori).

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Plain Fun, September 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
Probably one of the most creative bands I have ever listened to. They exist in this land where swing, zydeco, folk, carribean, pirate music and pretty much anything else can not only coexist, but occasionally get to boogie. It has a very sweet spirituality to it. This album can always get me out of a funk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put, a "fun" cd., June 30, 1998
This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
I got this cd back in Feb. '95. It's still one of the cds I listen to the most in my collection. I remember the salesguy telling me "they've got everything but the kitchen sink." Well, they do in fact have a sink in there.

I think one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is that if I could put my personality to music, this would be it. It's wild, it's a bit crazy, it's very fun. And while you may think "what in the world??", you cannot deny the musical talents this group has

The lead singer has sort of a low, soothing voice, and the bass player is simply incredible. If you like ska music, this is it. They do also have two more cd's, and each one gets a little more "calmer", and their newest title, "Russian Lullabies" is a keeper. Highly recommended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Cake, You'll Love This Album, January 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
This band is channeling CAKE and some funky jazz stuff together in a loose fitting album. Some of the recordings are a bit 'demo' in their quality, but they certainly are fun even if the quality is rough at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, refreshingly different, March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Havalina Rail Co. (Audio CD)
I love this Group and this is their best album. It is really hard to compare Havalina to anyone else. They just have their own sound. As I understand it, these guys started out as street performers. This title has retained some of that sound. They are always trying for something new in each song, and whatever they do is always fun.

this is the greatest band of all time, this cd is the best one ever put out. havalina rail co. is just laid back and playing music that they want to play, and they sing about God. they rock, there's no discussing it, they're just the best. listen to the lyrics and sing in your car.
