I bought the Havalon EDGE, primarily for skinning, but I also would like to use it for cleaning game. I initially tried it out on a tough coyote skin, and it did very well with only three blades. You do have to get used to how sharp the blades are (i.e. let-up on the twisting and pulling), or they will become dull before they should.

However, I regretted my purchase after doing some research. I visited Havalon's website to search for additional and/or alternate blades for the EDGE, only to discover that the most appealing blade to me (the thicker 60A) did not fit my knife. I was also a bit unhappy with the way the 60XT blades fit on my EDGE (they jiggled up and down). At this point I regretted not doing a bit more research as to which blades fit which models, the available blades, etc.

I went ahead and ordered 100 22XT blades, which have a dull tip and are the perfect size/shape for skinning (as well as a 12-pack of 60XT blades). I look forward to trying them out very soon. Now, they fit the opposite way on my EDGE (almost too tight), due to the increased thickness and smaller size of the blades. It took needle nose pliers to get them on and off the handle, but I prefer that to a loose blade that I can replace with my fingers.

I contacted Havalon about my OCD concerns, regarding the loose fit of the 60XT, the extra-tight fit of the 22XT, and the impossibility of using the 60A blades on my EDGE. Havalon went above and beyond my expectations, offering to replace my EDGE for a Torch, which can accommodate all three blades. So, I sent my EDGE and the extra 60XT blades I purchased back, paid the difference between the EDGE and Torch, and received a brick red Torch and an extra pack of 60A blades (a total of two packs) less than a week later!

This is the best skinning knife I ever used. Don't know why it says out of stock here when it seems everybody else has them. The Havalon site has them no problem. Highly reccomend for folks that hunt and fish.

Loved the knife. It is easy to change the blades out. Very good for capping out deer and skinning deer. Also hogs. One blade made it through a whole hog. Just don't cut through hogs hair. That would dull a saw blade notated what kind of knife.

This knife is excellent. It was recommended by a professional taxidermist, and he was spot on. I cleaned four deer with the first blade with no problems. I bought it for hunting, but it so good I carry and use it every day!

Hands down my favorite skinning and processing knife when in the field our butchering at home! I have owned several more expensive knifes and this is my go to option. After a deer, simply change the blade and get back to work. Makes quick work of skinning an animal in the field. The blades are reasonably priced and easy to change. WARNING: They are sharp. Keep your fingers out of the way! As an amateur knife sharpener, you would be hard pressed to get an edge like this on a blade. The frame of the knife is sturdy and comfortable in the hand. Love this knife and have already order 3 packs of the replacement blades in the last 3 years.

I love this knife I have skinned two bucks with one blade and use the same blade to euro out 4 skulls. Which meant I was hitting a lot of bone it never failed. I had to let the blade do its thing when skinning out the deer or else I felt like the blade might not hold up. I don't think it's anything bad just different technique. I would recommend it to anyone. I already have my eye on the limited edition knives.
