It DOES tell you which food/drinks to avoid!,
By A Customer
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
I cannot believe a previous reviewer mentions that this book doesn't tell you what to avoid for acid reflux. There is an entire chapter dedicated to the subject not to mention a couple of chapters that are all about answering common Q & A on acid reflux in general and diet and acid reflux. Plus chapters on eating out and getting through the holidays. My gastroenterologist gave me a copy of this book and told me that it was the best and easiest read on the subject and he was right!

Help at Hand,
By A Customer
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
I have just been diagnosed with Acid Reflux and realised that I had to make drastic changes to my diet and lifestyle. I bought Tell Me What To Eat If I Have Acid Reflux and have found it very informative. Elaine Magee covers everything I needed to know and more. The recipes are useful as are hints such as chewing gum after meals and raising the head of the bed. I also didn't know what I should and shouldn't eat, but I do now and it has helped immensely. It is also great to know that I'm not alone and that there are millions other suffers out there.

A thoroughly enjoyable read!,

This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
Believe it or not I actually enjoyed reading this book on acid reflux. My husband has had this for a couple of years now and I loved the way this book put it all together for us. It told me exactly what I needed to know, in terms we could easily understand, in the order I needed to read them in. The 10 Food Steps To Freedom lay out the diet recommendations in a very simple way. Then there are several supporting chapters on holiday eating, eating out in restaurants, and recipes you can't live without, that help you more easily follow the food steps. My husband is already feeling better and we've only been practicing the food steps for a couple of weeks!Lots of good information, and I enjoyed reading it.

Magnesium supplementation cured me,
By D. R. Schryer (Poquoson, VA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
For decades I suffered from severe bouts of acid reflux and heartburn several times each week. A few years ago I began taking a daily supplement of 1,000 mg of chelated magnesium for another seemingly-unrelated ailment. To my pleasant surprise the supplemental magnesium not only cured the ailment for which I was taking it, it also completely stopped my episodes of acid reflux and heartburn. I have since learned that acid reflux is caused by stomach spasms which cause acid (which healthy stomachs are designed by nature to tolerate and utilize) to be ejected into the esophagus which is not designed to be exposed to stomach acid and burns when it is so exposed. Magnesium is a natural relaxant -- as well as a natural antacid -- and, therefore, it helps prevent the stomach spasms which are the root cause of acid reflux and accompanying heartburn. I am a research chemist, not a physician, so I cannot tell you to take chelated magnesium as I did. I can, however, report to you the beneficial effects which I experienced from daily supplementation with chelated magnesium. Those interested in learning of the many other benefits of magnesium -- including prevention and mitigation of heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, asthma, osteoporosis, and diabetes -- should acquire and read Dr. Carolyn Dean's excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium.

Tell Me What to Eat If I Have Acid Reflux,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
This book is very good; it has handy hints like, chewing gum after eating for 1 hour can assist in reducing the time that stomach acid is in contact with the oesophagus. The book is about suggesting what could work for you; at the same time telling you that it is really all trial and error.
Having had oesophageal cancer and the operation but still having the reflux problem this is one book that I would recommend for all like me to read.

Shockingly helpful to most patients ...,
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
It is truly astonishing how many competent MDs treating acid reflux don't warn their patients of the dietary restrictions facing those who suffer from acid reflex. This applies not only to family doctors but incredibly ENTs! As such, patients are strongly advised to "understand their own bodies." All our bodies are different. Some patients will have strong negative reactions to chocolate. Others to orange juice. Some to red wine. Some to apple juice. To fix acid reflux problems - and it is almost always fixable - it is critical to understand what particular foods and beverages are causing it. This book will help properly identify.

This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
A complete understanding of heartburn and acid reflux is presented in Tell Me What To Eat If I Have Acid Reflux, from what foods tend to influence the progression of acid reflux to lifestyle changes which can make a difference. While there are also dozens of recipes, the meat of Tell Me What To Eat If I Have Acid Reflux lies in its advice on how to handle heartburn symptoms and how to prevent them.

Acid reflux and what to eat.,
By Wendie Malick "Actor" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
If you or any of your friends/family members are suffering from Acid Reflux, this book will certainly help you a lot. The author has kept an entire chapter on this and the Q & A session is also highly informative. Elaine Magee has collected all information and put them together in one book. Simple changes in life style such as chewing gum after meals and raising the head of the bed will help you a lot. The recipes are also very useful.
I used to crave coffee in the morning but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www.S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this.

Misleading Title,
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
I found the title very misleading. I had hoped to find the book filled with explanations on what types of foods are best for acid reflux and what types of foods you can substitute when recipes call for acid triggers, but that wasn't what this book was about. While it is a good book, filled with logical information, it's not what the title suggests. That said, it goes into what acid reflux is, why exercise and proper nutrition are so important for acid reflux sufferes, how to eat at restaurants, and it gives several recipes.

Everything You Need To Know About GERD,
By A Customer
This review is from: If I Have Acid Reflux (Tell Me What to Eat) (Paperback)
This is an outstanding book. Elaine Magee has succeeded in collecting a wealth of information into a single, readable paperback that is invaluable to those struggling with, or having family members struggling with, acid reflux and related problems. Having asthma? Maybe not - asthma might be merely a symptom of the underlying problem that comes from GERD, and treating the asthma symptoms instead of the problem may actually make the underlying GERD worse. Read on and see. Many medical professionals are unfamiliar with the current research and extensive information about reflux that is contained in this book, and the information here is essential in learning to navigate your way into effective medical help for GERD problems, advocating for proper treatment, and discerning when you've found a doctor that has the background and knowledge to help.
