It's no secret that Jerry Vale was one of the best crooners of the entire twentieth century; and when you hear him sing on albums like this one you're bound to agree! This CD has all of the songs from two of Jerry Vale's record albums entitled I Have But One Heart and Arrivederci, Roma. The artwork incorporates the original record album artwork; and the quality of the sound is excellent.
The CD begins with Jerry singing a wonderful rendition of "O' Sole Mio (My Sunshine)." Jerry's impeccable sense of timing helps him to put his own stamp on this classic ballad; and it makes the perfect starting song for this album. "Roman Guitar" is another romantic number that gets the royal treatment from Jerry Vale; and that's grand. I love it. "Just Say I Love Her" sounds new and fresh when Jerry sings it; his excellent diction bolsters his performance all the more and I'm very impressed. The Italian lyrics are lovely to hear--I may not understand every last word; but I know quality when I hear it! "Tell Me That You Love Me" shines brighter than silver and gold combined in Jerry's capable hands; and "Tell Me That You Love Me" is truly a major highlight of this album. "Return To Me" is another Italian classic ballad; Jerry sings this with grace and all the finesse of the pro he always was and still remains! "I Can't Get You Out Of My Heart" features Jerry's operatic voice and the music complements his vocals to perfection. "(Oh, My Wonderful One) Tell Me You're Mine" charms me with its beauty--it doesn't get much better than this, I can assure you! In addition, there's another gem in "Come Back To Sorrento;" this extremely romantic tune gets a fine treatment from Jerry who sings it with all his heart and soul. I'm amazed. "Volare" also shines when Jerry Vale sings it; the tempo of this version works well. "Summertime In Venice" is another sweet song that's very easy on the ear; and I think you'll like this one, too. Great! "You're Breaking My Heart" has Jerry squarely front and center as he sings this wonderfully; and Jerry was born to sing songs like "Al Di La." I really like "Al Di La." What an excellent arrangement! "Santa Lucia (Me And Maria)" is extremely pretty; and "Arrivederci, Roma" is a number many people will recognize right away; this tune was always very popular. Jerry breathes new life into it with his voice, though--look out for a stunning rendition of "Arrivederci, Roma!" "From The Bottom Of My Heart" is rather sweet and poignant; Jerry delves deep into this ballad to make it very special. "Non Dimenticar" is a song I first heard performed by the great Dean Martin; but I think Dean would be just a bit jealous of Jerry's version! The CD ends very nicely with Jerry Vale performing "Ciao, Ciao, Bambina;" and that's terrific. This solid twofer CD has so much to like that any Jerry Vale fan simply has to have this in their collection. This is also a wonderful album for people who like classic Italian love songs.
