By the time Al Green recorded this album he was planning to abondon the secular music world and devote himself (and his talents) exclusively to Gospel. While nowhere near as essential or timeless as albums like "Call Me", "Let's Stay Together" or "Al Green Explores Your Mind" this album provided Al Green with a rather smooth transition from R&B to Gospel--something which is reflected (albeit indirectly) in many of the songs' lyrics. The fact that this album was released at a time when Disco was at its apogee may have prevented it from getting its due recognition but "Have A Good Time" is today viewed by many as one of Al Green's most underrated Hi releases and one of his most intimate and personal sets.

Do not miss this soulful, sincere collection of Al Green's music ... just before his transition away from secular music. There is much to be moved by in these songs as one can almost feel Al contemplating his new life - both with excitement and trepidation. Start with the 1-chord masterpiece "Something" and prepare to be amazed.

This was the first Al Green album I bought in the '70.. It totally got worn out by so much playing.. It is ultimate 'Al Green soul'-- very funky, sweet, soulful, and a total 'keeper. I am now getting it on CD, to re-live old memories and keep Al Green's wonderful spirit alive by playing it in the car, and wherever I am.... Get it.You won't be disappointed...
