Editorial Reviews

He's the man in black, six-gun on his hip, willing to face any kind of trouble...for a price. Saddle up for Have Gun Will Travel Season 5, Volume Two - a thrilling 3-disc set containing the first 19 episodes from the fifth season of this classic TV series. Paladin (Richard Boone), knows countless languages, is a master of the fighting arts, and one of the fastest guns in the West. He appreciates fine food, beautiful women, and the refined lifestyle of San Francisco's Carlton Hotel. But, at a moment's notice, this legendary gunslinger will hit the trail, daring to do what few men would...or could. From the sun-baked corners of the desolate desert to the hardscrabble homesteads of desperate squatters, Paladin always gets the job done in the awesome adventures of Season Five, Volume Two.

CBS Paramount, THANK YOU for continuing the releases of Have Gun-Will Travel at a very fast pace.....this will complete season 5 and may I suggest you release season 6 in one set, as there are only 32 episodes... so the loyal fans can finally have all 6 seasons by spring! That is my wish for 2011...Paladin, you are the greatest!

UPDATE: Very satisfied with this release, pristine for 1962

5.0 out of 5 stars When good was good and the bad guys knew it! March 22, 2011

I grew up with the OLD westerns, They all were great but "Have Gun Will Travel" was the best. Not only did Paladin know how to use his gun but only as a last resort. He would try to reason or talk his way out of a fight before resorting to gun play. As in all of the OLD westerns, The good won over evil, bullies were put in their place and the women was held in high regard!!
I believe that season 5 has some of the best story lines and acting of all the Have Gun Will Travel episodes (I have all 5 seasons)I also believe that Richard Boone was one of the best actors that Hollywood ever produced!!

Now when my grandson comes over for the weekends, We pop some popcorn and I pull out the Have Gun Will Travel DVDs, then we sit back and watch Paladin do his thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars HGWT; always a favorite July 22, 2012

Have Gun Will Travel has weathered the years since it was first introduced. Good quality acting and stories. Anxiously awaiting the release of Season 6 and hope, like others, that they release the entire season at one time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best of the genre September 1, 2011

I often lament that the westerns of my childhood are gone. But when I do see one on TV, I realize there wasn't much there. "Have Gun" was different: a series with story lines for grown-ups -- not in terms of today's "adult" content, but in deft handling of a storyline that covered a lot of ground in 30 minutes. There's good meeting evil as in most westerns, but "Have Gun" often deals with the great ambiguities in between. Paladin is a hero (albeit a hired gun) who uses his wits first, and his gunfighting skill as a last resort. And there's nothing maudlin or syrupy about his heroism.
Quality: Most of the episodes are sharp and clear -- only a few aren't. Some of the earliest episodes have a raw quality of direction I equate with early western movies; I found those few fun to watch because of their novelty. But most were spot-on drama set in the post-Civil War west. I can't recommend this series highly enough!

Why, oh why is there not role models like Paladin today? No one could top his style, intelligence and demeanor. If only television and movies could instill a Paladin figure today then maybe they could help make the world a little bit better.

I am so glad that the final seasons are coming out. Yes they are greedy breaking it into part 1 and part 2 but so are many shows. I wish the price was less but to see Paladin again is worth it.

This show continues to impress even after all of these years. For those who like good vs evil, western excitment, a little adventure, and just plain fun give HGWT a try.

Brings back memories of my childhood. Richard Boone was quirky for that era. Some of the episodes are ahead of their time.
