From Library Journal
In north London, two very different but loving working class sisters, Vivvivid, messy, fertileand Annplain, neat, sterilearrive at a unique answer to Ann's childlessness. Viv, who already has two daughters, will bear another child as a gift for Ann. Ann's husband, Ken, is to be the father. Since artificial insemination seems too complicated, impregnation is accomplished the natural way. Not surprisingly, these events have a profound effect on all four, whose innermost emotions are laid bare. In less sensitive hands, this plot could be trashy and sensational, but English novelist Moggach has fashioned an honest and compassionate contemporary tale. Recommended.
