2.0 out of 5 stars Personally I Like Facts
I read this book many years ago. I love Science Fiction - and have always been fascinated by the idea of whether or not we truly only live once. For some reason, just a feeling really - living once never made sense to me. If we only live once that means we're basically nothing but a body with no true sentient thoughts. But when I cry at a movie, or feel unabashed love...

This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
There is much talk about past lives and the possibilities of having lived before, but here at last is some proof. The book examines incidents that came up during Scientology auditing (or counseling) sessions, incidents apparently from past existences. The people involved describe their condition before contacting the incidents and any changes that have occurred since going through them. The book answers the question, "Does what happened in the past still affect me now?" and much more. I highly recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars The most revealing book on the subject of past lives., August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
L. Ron Hubbard has created a text that reveals the dark mysteries of past lives. This book was fantastic and kept me reading for hours. I couldn't put it down. The true account of individual processed by Hubbard was very compelling. If you have ever wondered who you were in the past, this book is for you. A simply great piece of work.

Betsy Poulin (Lawton, Oklahoma) - See all my reviews
I read this book many years ago. I love Science Fiction - and have always been fascinated by the idea of whether or not we truly only live once. For some reason, just a feeling really - living once never made sense to me. If we only live once that means we're basically nothing but a body with no true sentient thoughts. But when I cry at a movie, or feel unabashed love and pride when my daughter does something extraordinary -- that doesn't come from a body - or to take it a bit further from the brain. It's too personal of a feeling; it's something not attached to the physical world.

With those ideas milling around, I found and read this book. And although it was interesting - it was just a bunch of stories. As a Science fiction buff, I've read a lot of "stories". So what? These guys are just telling us stories - or, give them the benefit of the doubt, they thought they did see this stuff. But that certainly didn't answer any questions for me.

So - being a person who likes to see and experience things for myself - and not into "believing" for the sake of "believing", I took this a step further and studied Dianetics - then I got some Dianetic auditing. And you know what? I ran into incidents that, although not as dramatic, simply amazed me! But it wasn't until I came across an actual (for me) past lifetime experience did I really get it!

So - did this book answer any questions for me? No - so if you want to get your questions answered, I don't recommend the book. Do I recommend finding out for yourself if there's any truth to these stories. You'll never know --- BUT, there's no denying your own truth when you personally have a similar experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Past Life Case Histories, January 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
Currently not in active publication, Have You Lived Before This Life? reviews many cases regarding the subject of past existences through the Scientology methods of auditing (counselling) techniques. At times these lives have been contacted through hypnosis, but Hubbard's technique is a bit different, guiding the person to these incidents and have the subject come to their own conclusions regarding their past existences.

The intro touches on the Bridey Murphy case and discusses other religions and philosophy's commentaries on past lives. Then, the reports of the cases that revealed what they sensed and experienced in their sessions. Take Case 15 (page 82, hardcover) for example. This subject had an inability to concentrate and an unwillingness to accept others' ideas and difficulty confronting. After his confrontation with a past live located over a million years ago, he had less concern over what other people thought and an increase in concentration.

It is the same case after case. The person had some difficulty that was alleviated to a greater or lesser degree through Scientology counselling and the use of a meter.

The introduction does not force people to accept these theories or analyze these subjects, but simply brings these items to view and have the reader come to his or her own conclusions.

The Appendices go over the history of reincarnation and past life theory, from the Cro-Magnon man on up. The last appendix lists a bibliography. Though many of these books are dated, it might not be a bad idea to pick one up and check it out at your local library to get a better understanding of what HYLBTL is all about.

Fascinating material. As it's out of print, you may be satisfied with borrowing the book from your local library or purchasing a used copy here on Amazon.

Recently the audio lectures of Mr. Hubbard that were the basis for the book have been released in January 2010 but are yet for purchase on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you "know" there is something else out there to know, September 18, 1998
By A Customer
I always wondered about people who made claims about "past life" experiences.

I have/had no opinion on it - I just wondered.

And I believe that there is "life after death".

This book tells interesting stories that kept me captivated.

It makes me wonder what I did in my past life (lives). And how does that make me think in this life?

I believe I must carry some baggage forward because we are spirits really. Some good, some bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint of heart., October 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
This was a very interesting look at the subject of past lives and the Human Spirit. But it is a very frank and clinical look at the subject. One may wish to attempt some of the more basic books on the subject of Scientology before attempting this one! But if you are bold and looking for an adventure, read on!

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a FASCINATING read!, May 1, 2010
Well, the title alone caught my attention enough to purchase this book.

You've got to have an open mind here. Read it and decide for yourself, you know? Mr. Hubbard wouldn't expect less of us.

I for one do believe that man is a spiritual being and occupies this body this time around. How can you kill a spirit? Or how could a spirit die? So, with that out of the way, why not?

But, as I said, this is something you must decide for yourself.

Buy the book and have a read. It is such fascinating stuff! And, think of the possibilities that open up, the chances to right wrongs, to accomplish miracles, to enjoy life... lives.

Over to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Skinny on Past Life Recall, October 31, 2005
This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
Instead of abstract philosophy or "what ifs", this book gives real examples of people who improved their present lives by recalling past life experiences. It explains how and why. It takes a subject that might seem scary at first and makes it approachable and fascinating. Definitely worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book..., February 18, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Have You Lived Before This Life? (Hardcover)
I found this very insightful. I've had recollections of things from past lives and this makes things so much more clear. If only our politicians knew they would be living a 'next life'. I think their decisions would be different. The old farts think they're going to stuff their pockets and live the high life on our dime and corporate kick-backs and get away scott free. They're ruining our food supply with Genetically Modified Frankenfood and environmental polluters. It would probably be different if they knew they had to come back and live in the mess they're making.
