3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Trip Down Memory Lane
Most of Rhino's HAVE A NICE DAY series is a hit-or-miss affair. There are enough hits to make it interesting, but overall most of these songs are at the MOR end of the pop music spectrum. The only song that even registers on the rock 'n' roll radar screen is Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky," one of the five million-selling singles in this collection. [The others are...

Volume 2 of the "Have a Nice Day" series is hands-down the best offering in the set. Rhino actually put twelve solid songs on the same disc, something very rare in this collection.

Hard-to-find gems abound in this volume, including the powerful "Reflections of My Life", Bobbi Martin's "For the Love of Him" and the Brotherhood of Man's classic "United We Stand."

There are no fillers and no throw-aways here, as even the lesser songs are recognizable and can legitimately be called "hits."

It's a very good thing that Rhino did their usual masterful job of remastering this disc, since most buyers will wear it out. The best value in the entire set and a definite must have. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Burrows Correction, December 7, 2006

All in all a great anthology. Minor correction on the Tony Burrows comments; he had nothing to do with Hitching A Ride (by Vanity Faire). However, he was also the lead vocalist on Beach Baby (First Class) and My Baby Loves Lovin' (White Plains).

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is A Very Good Volume Of The Have A Nice Day Series !, September 15, 2005
This review is from: Have a Nice Day 2 (Audio CD)
This Volume 2 of the Have A Nice Day series is another nice trip down memory lane and to me it is definately the co-star of the series with Volume 1 being the other. Every song on this Volume 2 peaked in 1970 and I previously owned most of these songs either on Vinyl or tape back in the day and it is great to hear them once again. Vanity Fare's Top Five Smash, Hitchin A Ride, and The Poppy Family's, Which Way You Goin Billy, have always been all-time favorites of mine along with the # 1 hit, Everything Is Beautiful, by the great Ray Stevens and the Top 15 smash, United We Stand, by The Brotherhood Of Man. Everything Is Beautiful, and, United We Stand, are songs of Love, Peace, Hope, Beauty and Unity and they still touch me when I listen to them. Both have very Powerful Lyrics and they Stand Tall even today. Every song on this Volume from the first which is Edision Lighthouse's, Love Grows ( Where My Rosemary Goes ), to the last which is Robin McNamara's, Lay A Little Lovin On Me, is great.
Final Note; As good as a lot of the music is today; these tunes of long ago are still very special to me. Like all Rhino compilations this CD sounds great and evidently this Volume 2 is out of print and starting to become rare.....Why?.....I don't know because I still think it is one of the two best of the series !.....Highly Recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars The best volume of this series., September 6, 2002

Why does the best volume of the entire Have A Nice Day series have to be the one that goes out of print? Every song on this album sparks memories and is also likable and relatively hard-to-find, especially "Little Green Bag" and "Lay A Little Lovin' On Me." This is musical nostalgia at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPER SERIES OF HARD TO FIND 70's TUNES, March 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Have a Nice Day 2 (Audio CD)
Rhino continues to impress with every submission. In volume 2, you'll find "Reflections of My Life" - a somber yet easy song of great length (a radio rarity in those days I'm sure), as well as several other hard to find early 70's iconoclastic hymns. Almost textbook-like in it's approach to the start of the cynical "ME" years that followed. The only thing missing are images of our friends being gunned down in the jungles as we reveled in these jingles. Both uplifting and morose.

[The others are "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary goes)," "Which Way You Goin' Billy," "Hitchin' a Ride" and "Everything Is Beautiful."]

While for the most part the tone of this album is laid back pop, these are infrequently anthologized songs by one- and two-hit wonders. [Only Ray Stevens had any kind of sustained career and they were mostly novelties.] So it's nice to hear these songs again.

Also worth noting is that each of these songs charted in 1970. So if you were in high school at the time (as I was), these songs have a certain charm and bring back fond memories. My only real complaint is the brief playing time. What I've done with my collection of HAND albums is to dub several of them onto a single cassette to play in the car for a memorable flashback experience on long car trips.

All good songs on the CD! As for them being AM Radio tunes, thats where Top 40 was located. Many cars did not even have FM mono radios in them yet by 1972! Also nice to know, Tracks 1, 8, 9 and 10 are ALL sung by the same artist. I believe his name was Tony Burrows & he was from Great Britain. He also had a hit with a little novelty tune titled "Gimmie Dat Ding".

5.0 out of 5 stars More Big Hits--All Original Versions, June 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Have a Nice Day 2 (Audio CD)
Another excellent collection of pop ditties from the 1970s. Separately, these songs would be almost impossible to locate (Where else can you find the hit "Lay a Little Lovin' On Me?"). Good sound quality, as always with Rhino Records, as well as some cheeky but amusing liner notes.
