5.0 out of 5 stars CLOSET SPACE FOR HUBBY!!! August 18, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
My Dear JILL & DANA

For all eternity my bride (of 45 years) has promised to go through her wardrobe & weed out what she never wears....by now four closets worth (including 2 walk-ins). And so, it was to my utter amazement that after "I Have Nothing to Wear..." she spontaneously launched herself into the fray...clothing, shoes & accessories flying in every direction...it was like she was shot out of a cannon!!! Six hours & Twelve 40 gallon trash bags later (much appreciated by a local homeless shelter) we were able to confirm that there were indeed, floors in the closets. Far more importantly, two feet of hanging space & two shelves have been allocated for ME (I will have space leftover). So thanks a bunch!!!
But wait, there is more!!!
Last night we had dinner plans & as I eased into my "waiting for her to get ready chair" for my usual half hour of Sports Center,I was rudley bedazzled by the sound of the key in the door & a sarcastic "Why are you always keeping me waiting?". What a transformation!!!
Last go around I learned a few of the fundamental fundamentals from "Fashion for Dummies"...actually bought a few things for myself & my wife which drew an approving glance. I signed my thank you/review "Hapless Hubby". This time it's,
"Happy Hubby"

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money October 12, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
While the authors might be minor celebrities, all you'll find here is common sense you already possess. Here is their wisdom in a nutshell: You have nothing to wear? That's because you buy clothing that doesn't suit your body, coloring or lifestyle. Want to declutter your closet? Throw or give away what you don't like or don't wear. I found the six "style" categories insulting and superficial, and the tales of shopping mistakes such as $600 stiletto shoes irrelevant to my life. The illustrations aren't even beautiful, and the same ones are re-used repeatedly in this overblown book. It almost feels like the editor (if there was one) told the authors to put as few words and as little content as possible on each page. I'm sorry I purchased this, and sorry I had to pay postage to return it, but happy it's not cluttering my bookshelves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Motivation in a Book August 16, 2011
Format:Hardcover
As an interior designer, I am always on the look out for new books that include organizing tips. I Have Nothing To Wear!: A Painless 12-Step Program to Declutter Your Life So You Never Have to Say This Again! by Jill Martin and Dana Ravich does not disappoint for those readers whose clothing is out of control.

Chances are, if you "Have nothing to wear," it's because your clothing is a disorganized mess. You are guilty of not getting rid of clothes, but just adding new items. If this sounds like you, this book will help.

As part of a 12 step program, the book begins with admitting you have a problem...(OK, I will admit that I felt the whole 12 step approach was a bit drastic and melodramatic, which is one reason I gave the book 4 stars.)

The authors advise you to get a friend to help with the process. A tough friend.

The goal is to get rid of 75% of your wardrobe. (Again, this is not for everyone, but for folks who basically never weed out their stuff.) Make piles: keep, donate and maybe.

The process of decluttering and organizing can be tough...but the payoff is immense! As the authors tell you, you will feel better about yourself when you are organized. Plus, by weeding out what you really don't wear--and paying attention to what you are getting rid of--you will learn your true style.

Once everything is weeded out, you will want to organize and beautify your closet/drawers. Once everything has its place, and you keep only what you wear, deciding what to put on becomes a no-brainer!

I would also like to recommend a book I give my clients all the time to help you organize/beautify the rest of your home: HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT: BEAUTIFY, DETOXIFY & ENERGIZE YOUR LIFE, YOUR HOME & YOUR PLANET.

Highly recommend.
