More About the Author

Growing up in a small North Carolina town gave Dicey plenty of time to dream of Hollywood and vampires. She loved escaping in great movies and fiction books, and discovered she wasn't bad at writing either. But she didn't think that was going to pay the bills or that anyone would take her seriously.

So she graduated high school, college and graduate school, then moved to Texas for law school. After getting married and having two babies, she decided it was past time to start doing what she was passionate about.

Now that she's a wife, mother, attorney and published author, she feels thrilled and fulfilled.

Penola and Lennon have been married for `a long time' the reason for its longevity - a whole month- is Penola's ability to follow to the letter the 20 rules her mother taught her to achieve the perfect marriage. The rules vary from keeping your man happy in the bedroom to filling his belly, rules we all know, right? Well, Penola may just have the definition of these rules a little warped, and I suggest if you are looking for wedded bliss you might want to avoid her list altogether!!

This short story/novella is a quick and amusing read. Penola is a character that clearly has a few... erm...issues, while Lennon is your typical farting, burping man with a wandering eye. Anyone familiar with Dicey's work could well be expecting explicit sex scenes and graphic violence but there really isn't much of that here, the content for DG was really quite tame!

Personally I enjoy `dark humour' and found this book both funny and entertaining and recommend it to anyone with a spare half hour.

Penola and Lennon are self absorbed and shallow, but that does not mean they can't have a perfect marriage, courtesy of the many rules that Penola has gotten from her Mother (and a few she made up herself I think). The rules govern her every move to make her marriage "perfect" and Lennon better wake up and realize his wife is dedicated to her marriage to the point where she might need a new address where the walls are much softer and they don't let you have shoestrings..

While a bit of a narcissist and just a wee bit insane IMHO Penola is working at that perfect marriage and nothing (make that NOTHING!) is going to stop her from giving it 100% even if Lennon is clueless about exactly how obsessed his dear wife is to that goal.

The chaos in this short story is great, the humor is dark and edgy but I enjoyed it completely. As a short story it gets a 4.5 for originality and dark humor. Might have been nice to have it longer but I think Dicey got the story told nicely in a compact form and by the time it is over you are really going to like Penola in spite of her wee break from sanity (you are gonna love it). I mean, a perfect marriage is worth doing anything ...... isn't it?

I liked that this story wasn't a standard romance formula with the names changed to cheat the innocent. The writing style was tedious and long-winded, and the story wasn't truly developed.

I expected another How To on how to have the perfect marriage. Our main characters mother had it down pat, and our main character almost achieved her mothers rules.

This short novelette had me laughing out loud and questioning main character Penola's sanity from the very start. Lennon's behavior was cringe-inducing and I have to give props to our prevailing Penola for sticking out such a mess of a marriage for the 5 weeks she did. No woman in her right mind would have been able to (but we know Penola wasn't in hers! Lol!) Miz Dicey's quick wit and signature sassiness made for some great story highlights and plenty of giggles. As always, Dicey's writing was flawless and it reminded me once again of why she is one of my favorite and most recommended-to-friends author. If you're not reading all of Dicey's work, you're missing out! I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading it again in the future.

This book made me laugh out loud because Penola's rules were absurd and ironic at the same time. This book was way too short and I must not have noted that when I downloaded it from the Kindle Buffett App.
