5.0 out of 5 stars Your new soundtrack., July 27, 2006
This review is from: Have You Seen Lucky? (Audio CD)
Perfect pop songs somehow have that way of becoming the soundtrack of your life, making inane things in your world seem more like scenes out of a movie. John Kastner has been making the world a little less ordinary for years now, and his new solo record does nothing short of showcasing his brilliant ability to write an album's worth of songs where each one gets stuck in your brain. It's all here too: introspective lyrics, punk angst, great guitars and sing-a-long choruses till the cows come home. The songs that are slower have a way of being moody but not maudlin, and the rockers are honest, heartfelt, and, well, rockin. If you were lucky enough to hear John Kastner's band from the 90's, The Doughboys, then you know what I am talking about, and I am sure that you and I were doing the same thing when we first pressed play on our CD players and heard John's familiar voice singing back to us: grinning one of those grins that you only get when you run into an old friend on the street that you really miss seeing around. And if I could throw you a party just to familiarize you with John Kastner's rich musical history and give you this record as a parting gift or door prize, I would.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little find, November 1, 2007

This review is from: Have You Seen Lucky? (Audio CD)
Put together by ex Doughboys John Kastner this is a great little find. I always felt that the Doughboys were one of the most underrated bands of their time. While many indie bands of the 90s went on to bigger and better things (Green Day prime example) The Doughboys kind of got left behind.

Well how to describe this. First off the sound production is excellent, it is great that an indie production could produce such a powerful production. No more 'sounds like it was recorded in someones garage' this really does show you don't need a big money studio to produce solid music.

The vocals are laid back while the music flows. The whole thing does remind me a lot of bands like the Fall or even Manic Street Preachers or the Stone Roses (Not a bad thing really) To American listeners maybe Far would be a close comparaison. This would probably be lumped in with 'pop punk' as this is pretty much a continuation of the Doughboys.

This is great music well put together and well produced. Check out Drive while you are at it by the same recording company.
