Editorial Reviews

Jim Reeves had registered nearly 50 US Country chart singles before his untimely death in July, 1964. Notable successes, many of which crossed over to the Billboard pop charts included, 'Four Walls', 'Anna Marie', 'Blue Boy' and 'Billy Bayou', all of which are featured here among the 52 tracks on this comprehensive compilation. 2CD set w/4 classic original 1950s albums: Singing Down The Lane, Bimbo, Jim Reeves, Girls I Have Known + 4 bonus tracks!

5.0 out of 5 stars A find for Jim Reeves fans! April 29, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This cd shows "4 original albums with bonus tracks on 2cds" on its cover. I was surprised to find that the four cds are the first four RCA releases by Jim. The LP, SINGING DOWN THE LANE, from 1956 is here along with the 1956 LP, BIMBO, the 1957 LP, JIM REEVES, and the 1958 LP, GIRLS I HAVE KNOWN. I have never seen the SINGING DOWN THE LANE LP in stores even when the other three LPs were available. It is great to find it on this cd. I saw a copy of this LP and its cover in a display case at the Jim Reeves Museum in Madison, TN, when it was there. This is the only time I have seen this LP.

The only things missing on this CD are the pictures of the album covers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Important Addition To Any Jim Reeves Collection February 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD
As reviewer Reynolds has already pointed out, this release from Not Now Music of the UK instantly became one of THE most essential additions to any Jim Reeves collection by the simple fact of giving us, in one place, the entire contents of his first four LP releases for RCA Victor from 1956 to 1958, along with 4 bonus tracks, and all produced by Glenn Grutland in excellent sound.

There are also two pages of liner notes written by Joseph Adair, a list of songwriters and recording dates for each track, and a complete sessionography showing the musicians involved. They don't get any better than this.

For the record, the label details for each album are:

Swinging Down The Lane - RCA Victor LPM 1256 - July 1956
Bimbo - RCA Victor LPM-1410 - October 1956
Jim Reeves - RCA Victor LPM-1576 - October 1957
Girls I Have Known - RCA Victor LPM-1685 - June 1958

Anna Maria, culled from Girls I Have Known, was also a # 3 Country/# 93 Pop hit single in late 1957/early 1948 on RCA Victor 7070. Mexican Joe, Bimbo and Penny Candy were re-recordings in 1956 for RCA of his 1953/54 hit singles for the Abbott label.

Three of the 4 bonus tracks were also huge hit singles, with Four Walls reaching # 1 Country (8 weeks at that position)/# 11 Pop in spring 1957 on RCAVictor 6674, Blue Boy making it to # 2 Country/# 45 Pop in summer 1959 on RCA Victor 7266, and Billy Bayou also making # 1 Country (5 weeks)/# 95 Pop late in the fall of 1958. Two Shadows On Your Window came from the album Up Through The Years - RCA Victor LSP-3427 in July 1965.

Just a wonderful collection of songs by an artist taken from us so tragically on July 31, 1964 in an airplane crash. It's interesting to note that some 34 of his 80 hit singles to 1984 were posthumous, which tells you just how much loved he was by the many thousands of fans. Jim was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1967.
