From Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3-Holub's creative story takes readers on a whimsical tour of the digestive process. In lighthearted rhyme, a girl relates how a fly travels through her brother from ingestion to elimination. "The fly wiggle-woggled/ around in his mouth,/bumping his teeth/before moving south." Sidebars, cartoons, and additional text explain the organs and steps of the digestive system in easy-to-understand language with simple analogies. The illustrations, rendered in ink, markers, gouache, and colored pencil, burst with bright colors and backgrounds. Children will chuckle over the toilet-bowl scene and the unfortunate fly sinking in gastric juices. Holub serves two pages of additional information including sections on "Should I Eat a Fly?," "The Food Pyramid," and "Funny Noises." This is the type of book that gathers no shelf dust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book on digestion, March 26, 2000

This review is from: I Have a Weird Brother Who Digested a Fly (Hardcover)
Digestion is an incredibly boring subject to many kids who visit my library (public). I now gleefully steer them toward this book. They love the title and are immediately intrigued. Because they find the story hilarious, they painlessly learn about digestion. Excellent book.

It's not easy to make learning about digestion fun, but this book does. I'm an elem. school librarian and am happy this book arrived on our shelves!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny book that also teaches about digestion., November 23, 1999
This review is from: I Have a Weird Brother Who Digested a Fly (Hardcover)
This clever book has been a great addition to my school classroom bookshelf. My kids laughed their heads off (I teach grades 1-2) when I read it aloud, and many of them went back more than once to the book later to get a closer look at the digestion facts.
