My whole school is using this book as a means to teach good character to our students. In my classroom, I encourage the students and other teachers to fill our bucket with compliments. The kids enjoy hearing about themselves, and we do a weekly drawing to receive a gift certificate donated by a local business. It's also a good way to explain to students that they're hurting themselves, when they hurt others.

David Messing's charming and colorful illustrations are a perfect match for Carol McCloud's simple and inspiring picturebook for young readers. "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?: A Guide To Daily Happiness For Kids" provides a diversity of examples of how their acts of kindness, appreciation, and helpfulness will be emotionally satisfying and personally rewarding for both themselves and others. What a wonderful way to ignite children's desire to do loving things for others as well assist them on their journey toward being self-aware individuals. I have read this to my 5th-8th grade students as an introduction to working successfully in groups. The concepts were well recieved and have been incorporated into our daily routines.
