Former Frente frontwoman Angie Hart and ex-Alanis axeman Jesse Tobias team up to fashion an album ripe with simple, graceful pop tunes. In many ways, Splendid act as an extension of Hart's former Aussie combo. The songs are driven by either acoustic guitar or subdued electric six-string work, with subtle electronic touches filling out the mix. As ever, Hart's sweet and innocent vibe throws you off guard, especially when she bluntly addresses relationships. Have You Got a Name for It sometimes cries out for more energy, which the band delivers on the perky folk-rocker "Work Cut Out for You" and the unexpectedly rockin' hidden track. Ultimately, though, this is a low-key, contemplative record that will slowly grow on you. --Bryan Reesman

5.0 out of 5 stars Longtime fan, April 8, 2002

I have been inspired greatly by Frente the former band of Angie Hart. I was heartbroken to learn they had broken apart however, to learn of her new band with her husband I was like a child waiting for the new C.D to arrive. The first time I heard it I almost died, it was exactly what I had expected and even more exciting then I had anticipated. The deep meaningful lyrics Angie Hart had captivated my soul with before where continued in an even better way. Her voice and lyrics have grown to prove her amazing talents. Can't wait to hear another c.d by the group.

This is one of the best albums I have recently purchased. I loved Frente; but Splendid takes what Frente brought to us and takes the music to a more genuine, intelligent, harmonic and melodic level; the lyrics deal with relationships and a person's daily emotional and survival apsects of life resulting from relationships. Many of the songs start off slow and progress to a melodic upbeat crescendo. I have been listening to this CD everyday-just love it. Watch out for track #11; this track starts with a very slow tune (great lyrics) and then switches to a different more upbeat (mainstream pop punk style, especially, the rythm guitar) song (within the track). I highly recommend this CD. Too bad that bands like Splendid don't get the airplay they deserve.
