Worthy of your praise...and frankincense and myrrh,

When I saw a promo for "Have Yourself A Meaty Little Christmas" on Adult Swim, I was optimistically excited. After hearing the album, I can say that it's a pretty entertaining product chock full of the dry humor I've come to expect from the 11 minute show.
The album includes humorous takes on several holiday favorites, but it's the songs from Meatwad that shine amongst the rest. "Feliz Navidad" starts out innocently enough until Meatwad decides to tinker with the lyrics (thus creating "Meat Navi-Wad"). "Little Drummer Machine Boy" goes from humorous techno keyboard beats to a hilarious all-out Neal Peart-esque drum solo. "All I Want for Christmas is my One Front Tooth" lets us in on the secret behind Meatwad only having one tooth. The standout song though is "Frosty the Red-Nosed Snowman", a gut-busting lyrical mess of Frosty and Rudolph, with additional themes like "Mary Had A Little Lamb", the Batmobile and Lipps Inc's "Funky Town". Not to mention Carl trying to time his part right and failing miserably (twice) to very comical effect. Unfortunately, there are a few songs that aren't up to par with the rest of the album. Carl's two "I'll Be Home For Christmas" songs entice a few laughs, but overall they left me wanting more "Carl Moments". Also, the album is pretty short. Just 12 songs (13 including the hidden song) that come in at around 37 minutes or so. It would have been nice to see a few more tracks in there, but more may have been too much of a good thing. These minor qualms aside, the album is sure to make you laugh. Boxy Brown gets to drop some rhymes about Christmas racism, Shake tries to spice up the story of Jesus' birth, and everyone chimes in for an epic "O Holy Tonight". If you don't mind the overall short length, I recommend giving this album a look. 7.5/10

If you like ATHF and you like Christmas music, this is the album for you. I stumbled across it a few days ago on iTunes while I was looking for Christmas albums.
Most of the songs are very funny, but the cover of "Feliz Navidad" is my favorite (and that's my favorite Christmas song anyway). Also good is "Hark! the Herald Angels Rap," a song that starts out simply enough, but is quickly highjacked by Meatwad's buddy Boxy Brown. Shake puts his own spin on the nativity story with "Twas the Night Before Jesus" (who knew that hippies, Voldemort and the Cannonball Run were involved?) And, the folksy blues, "I Sure Hope I Don't Have To Beat Your Ass This Christmas" is also a stand out.

I recently picked this up after discovering it on a new release rack at Hastings. I've been a fan of the ATHF show from around 2003, and figured this might be pretty amusing. As luck would have it, it is! And the $7.99 price tag is a bonus. So, if you're a ATHF fan and are looking for new ways to spice up your holiday season... Grab yourself a copy of "Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas" today!!!

Awesome Parody,

As a person who considers myself a scrooge, I have to say that I was thoroughly excited to get my hands on this album. If you're the kind of person that gets sick of the same 16 Christmas songs by 150 different artists, then this is refreshing. It's a humorus take on Christmas carols that will just make you smile. Feliz Navidad starts out the album and is quite cute and funny. My personal favorite is Twas The Night Before Jesus, which is a funny take on the birth of Jesus and ends in somewhat chaos. Next to that is I Hope I Don't Have To Beat Your Ass For Christmas. These are funny parodies that, admitedly, might not be appropriate for young children. If you're familiar with ATHF...what are you waiting for?! Frylock is on his album which is surprising. The only drawbacks is that there are no Mooninites (or Plutonians) and it's quite the short album.

I bought this for my son who is an Aqua Teen fan. Listened to it with him and pretty funny..... Especially Feliz Navidad. Since I don't know all the characters, I didn't quite get it, but will give it 4 stars since he seemed to enjoy it.

For any fan of the Aqua Teens, you know exactly what to expect from this compilation you'll have a great laugh whilst enjoying it. All of the tracks have been given an ATHF upgrade in style and humor. I would definitely recommend this CD to all fans.

Pretty much this album is what you'd expect from the aqua teens. A funny, comedic genius that those of us that enjoy the show would appreciate. Hit songs as Santa left a booger in my stocking, and the christmas story spruced up not to be boring.

I love Christmas albums and have been an Aqua Teen fan since I first discovered the show in 2003, so this combo is manna from heaven for me. I played this album many times over the holidays and, unlike a lot of comedy records, the humor didn't become too familiar the way it does on a lot of comedy discs. I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned "Santa Left A Booger In My Stocking." That song cracks me up every time I play it (and I've listened to it probably 50 times at least), and Neko Case is hilarious as Meatwad's duet partner. Plus, the song itself is really catchy. I also agree with one of the reviewers here who said the album could have used more Carl. His two "star turns" on "I'll Be Home For Christmas" are fantastic and make me wish he could have a holiday album all his own.
One caveat: I've played this for people who know nothing about ATHF (yes, they do exist...) and the record just doesn't work that well if you don't know the show. If you don't know the show, then make it your New Years resolution to start watching or recording the re-runs on Adult Swim, learn the wonders of Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad, and then get this album in time for Xmas 2010! |
