"A Personal Christmas" Plus One More Song & Better Sound,
By
This review is from: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Audio CD)
This is the same as Jerry Vale's Christmas CD released in 1995, "A Personal Christmas", with one extra song, "Snowbird", and with a higher quality digital sound. To compare, I played "Santa Mouse" and "He" on the "A Personal Christmas" CD, and then played the same songs from the "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" CD, and immediatley noticed a richer sound with better seperation. Instruments that were way off in the background and hardly noticable on "A Personal Christmas", were suddenly audible, and pleasantly crisp on this new release. And of course, Jerry's vocals are clear and crisp. If you want the best possible sounding Jerry Vale Christmas collection, this is the one to buy. THE "A PERSONAL CHRISTMAS" REVIEW: "If you could pick one album to represent an old fashion American Christmas, this would be the one. Reminiscent of a Perry Como Christmas album, Jerry's vocals are flawless as he effortlessly croons out some smooth and beautifully arranged high notes, complimented by the fantastic orchestration, and the better-than-average backup singers and choir. Vale's "I'll Be Home For Christmas", is the best version I've ever heard, the choir and Vale bonding together in a fantastic display of harmonies and soaring notes. All the songs are excellently done, but my favorite on this CD is "He". Recorded in 1972, and formally released on the vinyl LP "Alone Again Naturally", "He" is a full-bodied, full-choired, fully-orchestrated and lengthy musical extravaganza that only Jerry Vale could pull off with such panache. It's a rare spiritually treat from the master of "croon" that you'll find yourself playing over and over again. Another treat is the rare and cute "Santa Mouse" which was previously only available on a 45 single. I give this CD AAAAAAA+++++++ and recommend it to newcomers, collectors, and everyone looking for the perfect Christmas music collection."

Jerry's wonderful holiday album,

This review is from: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Audio CD)
Jerry Vale will always be among the best vocalists ever; and his Christmas songs are absolutely beautiful to hear all year long! I agree with the other reviewer who writes that this album has better sound than the 1995 album entitled "A Personal Christmas;" there is nothing lacking in the sound department here and the songs are so good that there's not a bad track in the lot.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," a ballad first sung by Judy Garland in "Meet Me in Saint Louis," gets the royal treatment from Jerry who sings this to perfection--and beyond! The lush musical arrangement enhances his performance without stealing the spotlight; and that's grand. "I'll Be Home for Christmas," a personal favorite of mine, never sounded better than when Jerry sings it here; he never lets go of a single superfluous note! "Blue Christmas" is very well done; and I really like "Silver Bells" with its lovely arrangement; "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" that again has Jerry Vale squarely front and center as he croons this so very well; "White Christmas" that would certainly get a stamp of approval from Bing Crosby; "O, Holy Night" that uses the strings and more to great advantage as Jerry sings this flawlessly; "The First Noel" which sounds very triumphant and grand; "O Come All Ye Faithful" that Jerry infuses with so much genuine passion; "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" with Jerry yet again singing--there's some backup for him on this ballad but Jerry never really needed backup; his talents carry him through every time. "O Little Town of Bethlehem" stuns me with its beauty in Jerry's more than capable hands; and listen for yet another gem when Jerry performs "Silent Night." Jerry's rendition of "Silent Night" is easily my favorite! "Santa Mouse" is a playful secular tune that brings a smile to my face; and "(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays" is absolutely beautiful on every level. "He" is sublime; I could never tire of hearing Jerry Vale sing like this. The album then ends with Jerry Vale performing a fine rendition of "Snowbird." This extra track with all the rest leaves me wanting even more! Jerry Vale fans will want this for their collections; this is one outstanding album full of holiday music both spiritual and secular. I highly recommend this album.

Jerry Vale, one of so many Italian-American singers, has a very
beautiful baritone voice... Christmas Music is one of my favorites...so this CDs is very beautiful, can be heard with pleasure. Try, too, Al Martino, for a similar experience.
