Truly FAB-ulous!,
This review is from: Have yourself a FAB-ulous Little Christmas (Audio CD)
This is a great CD! We purchased it last year along with "Christmas With The Fab Four - The Ultimate Tribute" and we enjoy them both VERY much. When the intro to "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" begins, you'll swear they're going to play "When I'm 64." You'll find yourself laughing (in spite of yourself). The recreations of the Beatles' voices and instrumentals are uncanny. It's incredibly clever that they use Beatles tunes to arrange the Christmas standards. How they found songs that would weave together so well is amazing! Personally, I think "What Child Is This" should be played this way all the time! Make some hot cocoa and put this CD on while decorating the tree, and enjoy! (Then follow it up with the HELP! DVD, it has snow in it too!)

Fun Xmas Rock and Roll Novelty,

This bargain-priced CD contains half the material from the Fab Four's previous holiday-themed collection. All the songs on the CD combine traditional holiday songs with Beatles references, as you would expect from a Beatles cover band.
The results are pretty good; I particularly enjoyed the Norwegian Wood stylings of "Silent Night" and the McCartneyesque "The Christmas Song." On other songs, the combination is a bit strained, and "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" is seriously damaged by the inclusion of synthesised horns rather than a real horn ensemble. Still, the price is right, and if you're already inclined to purchase Xmas CDs you will definitely get a kick out of this one.

Clever and enjoyable Beatlish settings of Christmas songs,

I am glad I noticed this delightful little CD while bored out of my skull in line at 7:20 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving--had I not, I'd have missed some wonderful settings of Christmas standards (plus a neat original song).Herein a Beatles tribute band does these standards in the style of various Beatles songs. The musicianship is impeccable, and the skill, taste, and respect with which this improbable merging occurs has my admiration. The original song, "Dear Santa," is well done, faithful to the style, and got not only a smile from me, but a laugh at its gentle ribbing of "Happy Christmas/War is Over" in the line "Dear Santa/Well, I've heard it all before/From 'Jingle Bells' to 'No more war'". If you're a Beatles fan, or even if you were just conscious during the 60s and early 70s, you'll recognize the Beatles tunes being paraphrased here, and I think you'll enjoy the disc as much as I do. (Say, about that cover artwork...Santa's barefoot on Abbey Road. Is this the start of a "Santa is dead" rumor?)

Rocking Around the Christmas Fab,

This review is from: Have yourself a FAB-ulous Little Christmas (Audio CD)
Owning both of of the Fab Four's christmas cds, I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with everything they've recorded here! As good as you get in trying to sound like the Beatles who sing Carols. I bet you these guys can sing the actual songs to perfection! Highly recommended to those who love Christmas Songs and the Beatles... you can go wrong.
And to the fellow (a few reviews above) who thought "Dear Santa" was based on a RINGO tune,... it's not. It's based on "Oh Darling", which appeared on ABBEY ROAD. Merry Krimbel

CHRISTMAS FUN!,

This album is SIMPLY AWESOME.
I had read a review where someone criticized the Fab Four for not using real horns in place of a synthesizer on "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" but PUH-LEASE.....First of all It sounds so much like the Beatles' "Got To Get You Into My Life" I don't know how anyone would know they aren't real horns!! I own this album as well as thier first Christmas album, "The Ultimate Tribute" and this band sounds dead on, EXACTLY like The Beatles. I blast these songs in my car when i'm out shopping and frequently have people asking me "Who is that? That's awesome!" and they're right, it is!

A must have album for Beatles fans,
This review is from: Have yourself a FAB-ulous Little Christmas (Audio CD)
If you are a Beatles fan then this is the Christmas album for you. The Fab Four are a Beatles Tribute Band, and they make an excellent job of the singing. Most of the tracks on this second album continue in the way of their first, and use material from the later Beatles period. What's really clever is the way you start off listening to a familiar Beatles into, and instead of the lyrics you are used to, a Christmas carol or song emerges. The time they must have taken to get this right, and at one point I really thought they had stolen the Beatles backing tracks, but no they play them all themselves.

Way underpriced,

I can do without the early onslaught of Christmas music each year, but having bought the two Fab Four albums last year, I couldn't wait for the "holiday season" (Halloween etc.) to arrive so I could start playing them again. Very clever combinations of Christmas and Beatles songs. For example, "Joy To The World" remade into "Please Please Me," with the added bonus of the harmonica solo from (what else but) "Little Child"!If you're still mad about the "bigger than Jesus" remark of 1966-- buy these albums to throw on your bonfire, but LISTEN first, and I'm sure you'll change your mind!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Have yourself a FAB-ulous Little Christmas (Audio CD)
I previewed the songs on Amazon and thought they were nice and when I received the Christmas CD I was so happy that I purchased it because it was more than I would have liked to spend on the CD but worth it. All of the songs are great and I still am enjoying it now well into the new year.

Not As Fun as the Other One,

I'd recommend their other Xmas CD first-I skip many more on this one.
Although "Santa Claus is Comin to Town" ala "When I'm Sixty Four" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" ala "Got to Get You into My Life" are classic. Correcting the correction about "Dear Santa": It is SO a Ringo tune, found on his "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" CD. |
