Good but nothing new, December 10, 2007
This review is from: Having It All: Achieving Your Life's Goals and Dreams (Paperback)
Unless you are totally new to the self-help field, you will find that most of the ideas presented in this book are not new. That certainly does not take away from the success that John Assaraf has created for himself. His story should be an inspiration to everyone and proof that if you model your life after someone who is successful, anyone with average tools and above average drive can achieve a high level of success.
The book is well written and easy to read. The subject matter is well structured and has plenty of useful exercises for the reader to complete.
In the True North example of perceived weakness, there is a ironic mistake. I cannot be sure if it was a typo or an editor with a bit of a sense of humor, but under one of the examples of perceived weakness, the example says, "My writing skills are rusty: poor spellar, not good with grammer." (should be speller and grammar.)
The value you get from the book will depend on two things. Where you are in your journey of self-improvement and the amount of time and energy you put into implementing the ideas.
If you are an avid reader of self-improvement books, you will still benefit from reading this book. If nothing else, the reinforcement of the ideas will help. If you have not read many self-improvement books, this would be a good one to start with.

John Assaraf delivers yet again, November 1, 2007
This review is from: Having It All: Achieving Your Life's Goals and Dreams (Paperback)
I've been a big fan of John Assaraf ever since I listened to his Foundation CDs and used his Mindset for Success Workbook well over a year ago. I've been a student of self development for a long time. He is offering technologies that truly recondition the brain to allow you to replace negative habits with positive habits. He has a unique ability to share what he has learned from the latest brain researchers and how he has effectively applied that to his life and businesses to truly "Have it All." He is one of the best in the personal development field and his programs, I feel, are so effective that if you are comparing his programs to others, I'd say this: do all of them, but, use John's programs first, as they help you to apply not only his strategies but also apply other programs. If you are like me, I was buying a lot of personal development materials, starting them but not finishing them... so my shelf started getting full of half-used materials. I couldn't keep up the discipline for as long as necessary to full follow through on everything. But, after using John's program, I was able to remove any mental blocks and finally live a life where there is nothing getting in my way from creating more prosperity, health, ideal relationships, and a deeper spirituality. So, his latest edition of Having it All is, no surprise, one of the best books on personal development I've ever read. When you apply the universal laws that he explains, you get results consistently. I've seen it in my own life. If you apply what he teaches, you, too, will finally achieve the goals that you've set for yourself. I have a degree in comparative religious studies. What I've learned is that each religious tradition tries to explain how to live in harmony with universal laws that will produce a life of balance, peace, and prosperity. Without being "religious" in the traditional sense, John does a world-class job of combining spiritual insights into hard core brain science research and show how it is possible to attract more money into your life and still live a balanced spiritually-focused, philanthropic (meaning "love of humanity) lifestyle. The new entrepreneur is no longer a "go getter" but a "go giver" as I like to say. John is one of the most successful "go-givers" who is inspiring a whole generation of people to give the best they have to the world and learn to receive only the best in return.

Always learn from someone who's done it already, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Having It All: Achieving Your Life's Goals and Dreams (Paperback)
I read the first edition and it changed my life forever. Now, with the two new chapters on Your Powerful Brain and The Laws of Earning Money, it's destined to become a classic, like Think and Grow Rich.
John writes in an easy to understand way, and shares information (that he's learned and used) about your mind and how it REALLY works, and the unseen laws that govern the world that we live in and how to get what we want in a way that allows you to consider that maybe, just maybe you too, CAN have it all.
If he can go from a 17 y.o. drop-out to become a mega-successful entrepreneur and all around great human being, SO CAN you. IF you are willing to do the work like he was. Therein lies the REAL secret...
