This is a pretty good one,

It's a good cd, only I think Rev. Cleveland could have appeared more on the album as far as playing the piano or organ. By this time, Rev. Cleveland had grown old and the year was 1990. Although he plays the piano only on three songs, (Somebody's Knocking, Shady Green Pastures, and My Hope Is Built On Thee) this recording was as strong as his 1975 Jesus Is The Best Thing album, where he did play the piano on. His audience's response was just as thunderous also. So pop this one in, go a few years back, and enjoy!

There are a few tracks on this CD I remembered singing (in choir). The up-beat foot stomping, hand clapping tunes: "I'M SAVED" (my favorite); "SOMEHOW I MADE IT;" "READY WHEN JESUS COMES;" "WE GIVE YOU PRAISE" (slow pace but sweet); "WHAT SHALL I DO?"; "SONG OF PRAISES" (slow pace but sweet); "GOD LEADS HIS CHILDREN" and "GOD IS TAKING US AWAY".
In overall, this is a very good CD. The analog to digital transition was smooth. No hissing on the CD.

If you like traditional gospel James Cleveland's voice will definately take you back. For those who need direction "What Shall I Do?" will inspire you. It's an old favorite.

A card-carrying, scripture-hating, apostatic atheist could not but be roused and inspired by some of the cuts on this album. If you can get past the UNFORGIVEABLE use of synths on a few tracks (message to Gospel musicians everywhere, to be shouted from the mountaintops and bellowed through the valleys: SYNTHS OUT OF GOSPEL! You have access to a CHOIR, the most beautiful, nuanced and emotive instrument in the world. What could a thin, wishy-washy string pad possibly bring to this popping party? As it is written, so shall it be), this is music to fill your soul, to make you smile and to leaven your day. It's beyond music, in fact; it taps into the pleasure centres in a way that seems eerily direct, like it's bypassing the ears and injecting itself straight into the cortex. A neurological joy-buzzer. Edna Tatum's narration is wonderful, the soloists are incredible and the rhythm section stomping. A fitting tribute to the memory of the Rev JC. If only someone could wipe the synths.
