5.0 out of 5 stars Deft verse, April 17, 2010
This review is from: Having Cut the Sparrow's Heart (New Issues Poetry & Prose) (Paperback)
Learned woman in two languages, Malinda Markham brings readers "Having Cut the Sparrow's Heart", another book of poetry from the prolific woman writer. Drawing on her own experiences residing in two countries, she creates deft verse, making "Having Cut the Sparrow's Heart" a true treat. "Famous Sights of the Eastern Capital": In the painting A mystic Lion hurls its cub from the cliff, the cub/cradles either a mirror or harp. Its eyes show no fear. The man asked/her what it meant. She said the cliff looked familiar, the body splayed/like laughter and curved. "What carnal knowledge," he asked,/"makes you old?"
