4.0 out of 5 stars helpfull guide August 1, 2012

This freebie by Lonely Planet has 3250 locations, an 'How to use this guidebook' at the very beginning of this book, a few advertisements for Lonely Planet Guides, and an active table of contents. There are a few black and white pictures and some maps in this book. The maps are too small on a Kindle to be of much use.

The contents of this book is:

-cover
-How to use this guide
-Hawaii or the Caribbean?
-Hawaii
-Caribbean Islands (a lot of them are described!)
-Behind the scenes

This book gives information about: Costs, which season to chose, colonial cities, ths best beaches, where the best places to surf or to sail are, best hiking places, music, ATM's, restaurants, hotels, visas, budget, etc. This book also gives a lot of links to Websites that give more information. These links are very handy to have.

The chapter about Carribean Islands has subchapters about 29 Islands, from Anguilla to the US Virgin Islands. Of all these islands information is given about beaches, food, water sports and much more. This chapter also has a subchapter called 'if you like...', this tells you what island to chose depending on what you find to be the most important things for your holiday, like: if you want to go diving, if white-sand beaches or the most important thing for you, family fun, beautiful scenery, music, romantic getaways, snorkeling, old colonial towns, outdoor adventure, nightlife, pirates/forts/and ruins, relaxing at a resort, shopping, sailing, pampered luxery, watching wildlife, secluded coves or partying. There is a perfect island for everyone!

This book did help me to find out which islands I will like best, and that's exactly what this book was supposed to do. If you are interested in visiting one of the Hawaiian or Carribean islands this book can be a great tool in helping you chose which one(s) will suit you best. So: recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of interesting information. April 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this book because I was already planning a trip to Hawaii. I had already done research, and it told me little about Hawaii that I didn't already know. However, I found the sections on the various Caribbean islands very interesting. There was a lot there I didn't know. I am now thinking of a trip to the Caribbean (perhaps Puerto Rico or Martinique) in the future.
