Editorial Reviews

CBS Records will release a specially-produced soundtrack for the hit television series Hawaii Five-0 on Tuesday, October 4. Hawaii Five-0: Original Songs From The Television Series features brand new and previously unreleased tracks from some of music s most popular artists including Bob Dylan, Train, Goo Goo Dolls, The Swell Season, Switchfoot, Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro that are available exclusively on this soundtrack.

Hawaii Five-0 producers listened to dozens of submitted tracks before choosing the ones best suited for this season s upcoming storylines. Hawaii Five-0: Original Songs From The Television Series stands apart from TV soundtracks which merely compile a selection of songs that were heard in a series previous episodes. Instead, as a result of this creative process, this collection features mostly brand-new and previously unreleased tracks that will be integrated into upcoming episodes this season.

Of particular note from this collection is a previously-unreleased Bob Dylan track, “Don’t Ever Take Yourself Away.” This island-flavored gem dates from recording sessions in the early 1980s, and was newly mixed and mastered for this soundtrack after being locked in the vaults for nearly 30 years.

As Hawaii Five-0 Executive Producer Peter Lenkov explains, “Music plays a big role in our show, and we are thrilled that so many great artists have provided us with exclusive tracks that can be so well integrated into our second season episodes. As a result, fans will be able to experience a soundtrack album that is truly representative of Hawaii Five-0.”

The soundtrack also includes the first commercial release of the “Hawaii Five-0 Main Title Theme” that was newly recorded for the series launch in 2010. Also featured is a suite of the show s score, “Book em Danno” produced and arranged by Brian Tyler and Keith Power, which they assembled specifically for this album. Songs featured in the show s first season -- “Closer” from Corinne Bailey Rae and Hawaiian standard “Hi Ilawe” from John Cruz are also included.

Hawaii Five-0 airs Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The show is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new, elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the islands sun-drenched beaches. Nearly 12 million people watch Hawaii Five-0 on CBS each week, making it one of the most popular television shows in the country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars for Hawaii 5-0 Soundtrack October 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves Hawaii Five-0 - or to anyone who would like to listen to an eclectic mix of songs and enjoy the whole CD. We have all bought CDs that have one or two songs that we like and we never listen to the rest. This one is the kind that you will enjoy from start to finish and never hit that forward button.

Everyone knows and enjoys the iconic theme song from H5-0 that starts the CD; then you have a wonderful group of artists, from Goo Goo Dolls and Switchfoot to Bob Dylan and Ziggy Marley. Some of the songs are new to me, and I like them all. I enjoy listening to a group of songs that are not all in the same "mood". This goes from upbeat to peaceful and soothing, ending with "Book 'em Danno", a part of the soundtrack that will be very familiar to fans of the show. Very dramatic, and while you listen to it you can picture Steve in the middle of one of his many heroic feats that keep us on the edge of our seats every week.

I was surprised that the price of this CD was so low. It is one that you will listen to over and over, and it won't ever end up in the group of CDs you buy sometimes when a particular song is popular and then you get tired of it. This is a keeper. I hope they make one for each season of Hawaii Five-0, and I'm sure there will be many.

Enjoy! Aloha

Everyone else here is crying "ripoff", "corporate greed", and on and on. I say, "Chill, man! Hold on a minute." It's just not *that* bad. Hear me out.

First, a brief digression. At 54, I'm old enough to fondly remember the original series, and never missed an episode. I find that this new version of "Five-O", from that iconic theme song on, stays faithful to the show's original premise, and just does it better.

As to the soundtrack album, I found 10 out of the 12 tracks worth owning. (I'll pass on "Closer" and "Book 'Em Danno"). How many 12-cut CDs do we each own, especially soundtrack albums, with only one or two tracks that are any good? Give this soundtrack a break then.

CBS truly IS guilty of greed by not allowing songs to be bought separately, I agree completely. However, as a huge fan of the show and most of the tunes here, I found this album worth it. Listen, then decide for yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars how can mp3s cost more than a physical cd? March 14, 2012
By nsc
Format:MP3 Music
I know prices go up and down, but right now the physical CD is $9.99 (plus you get a $1 credit towards MP3s) while the same music as downloadable MP3s is $10.99. How can they charge more for bits in the ether than a physical piece of plastic in a case? Crazy. Plus I agree with the other reviews here that I only want a couple songs from this collection and it's annoying that you can't get individual tracks.
