Excellent Example of Traditional Hawaiian Oli (chants),
By Surf Happy (Honolulu, Hawai'i) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hawaiian Chant: The Lyrical Poetry of Hawaii (Audio CD)
This is an amazing collection of traditional Hawaiian Oli or chants that have been preserved for future generations by Kumu John Keola Lake, a teacher and practitioner of Hawaiian culture, and his haumana or students. Chant was an integral part of daily life in ancient Hawai'i, and this recording contains examples of the various styles and types. Chants were used as prayers and blessings for important occasions such as births, weddings and funerals, and also to celebrate significant people and events in history. Chants were also offered as petitions to the gods to help things run smoothly, to have a safe journey, and to ask permission to enter the forest or ocean. We are lucky to have this recording!

Should have listened to this before I bought. Not my cup of tea. Just some old hawaiian men shouting.
