About the Author
Michael Kioni Dudley, Ph.D., a scholar-activist, professor of Hawaiian religion, became involved in the sovereignty movement in 1984. He has written several articles on sovereignty, and is author of the campanion to this volume, Man, Gods, and Nature. He is non-Hawaiian.
Keoni Kealoha Agard, a native Hawaiian attorney concentrating on Hawaiian land claims and other native issues, has been active in the sovereignty movement since childhood.
Both authors have served on the state legislature's Sovereignty Advisory Council, and on the board of the federally funded sovereignty umbrella organization, Hui Na'auao. Dudley serves on the board of Ha Hawaii, which organized the Hawaiian vote. Agard is a delegate to the Native Hawaiian Convention.
