5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy it, October 6, 1999

I own about 10 Hawaiian music CDs, and this one is my all-time favorite. It's perfectly relaxing and mellow. Just hearing the first chord is enough to (mentally) transport me to a secluded beach on Maui.

5.0 out of 5 stars This music will transport you into another beautiful world., December 4, 1998

This recording is an absolute gem. Two unique forms of Hawaiian guitar music, slack key and Hawaiian steel, are combined and played by two masters from hawaii. If you enjoy acoustic guitar, dobro, or blue grass finger picking music, this CD is a must. If you like to listen to Spanish or acoustic jazz guitar, this CD is a must. If you enjoy Hawaii, or maybe you have never heard true Hawaiian guitar music, this CD is a must. The recording is very high quality and captures the subtleties of both musicians and their instruments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hawaiian Tough, July 8, 2005
This review is from: Hawaiian Touch (Audio CD)
The best example of Ki ho`alu and Steel Guitar existing. I fell for this the first time I heard it and would love to see more similar recordings. Unfortunately Uncle Barney has passed and Dancing Cat (George Winston) has folded its tent. George Kuo is still touring and producing wonderful ki ho`alu, currently with Aaron Mahi and Martin Pahinui.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Great Blending of Hawaiian Instruments!, August 4, 2003

I just knew I would love this CD, and it even surpassed my greatest expectations! These duets, with just an acoustic steel guitar played by an older master, Alvin "Barney" Isaacs, Jr. and one of the younger generation's great slack key players, George Kuo, create a most beautiful blending of old and new sounds.

This CD is so beautiful you will be hoping it will never end. I can only hope they will record more of such dreamy and easy-listening Hawaiian music. In my estimation, together they make one of the sweetest sounds this side of heaven!! Do bless us again real soon, Barney and George!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music for relaxing on the lanai, January 25, 2008
This review is from: Hawaiian Touch (Audio CD)
I bought this CD a couple years ago and immediately fell in love with it. I had been listening to it in my car for about 2 weeks straight when I loaned it to a friend. Since he loves Hawai'i, and slack-key AND steel guitar music, I knew he would absolutely love this CD. This was around the holidays, so with all the chaos of that time, I'd forgotten he had it. After the holidays, I remembered he had it, told him I really missed it, and needed it back. Well guess what -- he'd LOST it! Arrrghhh... his daughter had moved it from the CD player, and put it in a wrong case. We looked forever, but couldn't find it. I've been jonesing for it since, so I just bought another copy. If he finds it, I told him to keep it as a 'gift.' :-)

If you love slack-key style, and you love the singing sound of a steel bar on the Hawaiian steel guitar, you will love this CD. It's the perfect CD to put on for enjoying cocktails with friends on the lanai while the sun goes down, and really sets a relaxing mood. Barney was a true treasure, and sadly no longer with us. Thankfully though, his beautiful playing here with George Kuo is documented for us to enjoy forever. This is one of my favorite steel CD's in my collection.

Highly recommended!
