Many animals find food and shelter in the warm Pacific Ocean. Those that live off the shores of Hawai'i have found an island paradise like no other in the world.
Author/illustrator Tammy Yee grew up in Hawaii where she explored tide pools, swam in streams, and wrote and illustrated spooky stories her teachers politely read. Working with children as a pediatric registered nurse and later, having children of her own rekindled her love for picture books, so in 1994 she exchanged her stethoscope for a paintbrush and she's been writing and illustrating ever since.
Tammy has written and/or illustrated more than 24 books. Her collaborations have won honors such as the 2003 Ka Palapala Po'okela Award (LULLABY MOON, with Elaine Masters), the Hawaii Center for the Book's 2006 National Book Festival Selection (A IS FOR ALOHA, with 'Uilani Goldsberry) and the 2008 Storytelling World Honor Award (THE TSUNAMI QUILT, with Anthony Fredericks).
Tammy lives and writes in Windward Oahu with her three rabbits, two birds and one sweet but slobbery bulldog.
