Editorial Reviews

Marty Robbins clearly felt great affinity for the music of Hawaii, and the 28 tracks on this collection contain some of his finest and most evocative singing. Although the venture wasn't commercially successful, and the music occasionally suffers the intrusion of schmaltzy Nashville production, Robbins performs beautifully, creating a breezy mood that marks one of pop music's better attempts at the genre. ~ Jim Smith, All Music Guide --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let Marty Robbins Take You to the Shores of Hawaii!, January 4, 1999
By
This review is from: Hawaii's Calling Me (Audio CD)
Marty Robbins' "Hawaii's Calling Me" is an absolute delight to listen to! Marty's voice floats dreamily throughout the whole CD, flowing so effortlessly that you can almost hear the rolling surf, the cry of the seagulls, and feel the gentle ocean breeze. In my opinion, the best tracks on this CD are "Blue Sand," "Beyond the Reef," "Echo Island," and "Hawaii's Calling Me." This is the perfect CD to put your mind at ease and to take you to another world. This is a must have CD for any music lover! This is a true gem! Let Marty take you away to the shores of Hawaii!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes You Feel Like You Are There !!!, December 30, 2004
This review is from: Hawaii's Calling Me (Audio CD)
This is one of the best albums Marty Robbins ever recorded.
He goes from country to Hawaiian with ease on such beautiful songs such as "Drowsy Waters", "Isle of Golden Dreams" and "Lovely Hula Hands".
This is a combination of two albums by Marty recorded in the 50's and 60's.
Backed by the great Jerry Byrd on steel guitar for the second album ,Marty hits all the high notes imaginable and it makes you feel like you are right there on the beach on some exotic Pacific Island.
This is a must buy for all Marty Robbins fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bear Family Records Never Let's You Down, May 29, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hawaii's Calling Me (Audio CD)
This CD has the Marty Robbins Hawaiian recordings from 1954 through 1963. I am glad that the 1954 version of "Isle of Golden Dreams" was included since it is much better than the 1957 recording. Bear Family can take great pride in providing the U.S. with excellent products!
