One of my favorite Hawaiian singers!, October 2, 2005

A great debt is owed the folks at Cord International for putting this CD together. Previously, only a few cuts by Dela Cruz were available on Cord's various "nostalgia" CDs. Now we have 23 songs sung with fluent grace and loads of aloha. This is a very flexible, expressive voice with less of the grating quality found in some other female Hawaiian falsetto singers. I especially enjoy the second track, "Keala Ka'u I Honi", a slippery insinuating number that invariably gets my hips swaying and my heart dancing. "Akaka Falls" is a disappointment, lacking in warmth, especially when compared to the versions of either the great Genoa Keawe or the more recent Keali'i Reichel. But her "E Mama E" can stand comparison with anyone's. This is a beautiful example of very fine female falsetto singing from someone who deserves to be better known than she is.
