About the Author
Robert Smith is regarded as THE authority of hiking in Hawaii. A Maui resident, Smith has known Hawaii intimately for over 30 years. Until recently, he conducted hiking, backpacking and bicycle trips on the Islands for over 15 years. A former educator, Smith has taught in Mainland schools and at Maui Community College. Smith has been a contributing editor for Hawaii Magazine for a dozen years and his features have appeared in numerous Mainland newspapers. Smith earned a BA and MA in political science from California State College, Long Beach.
