About the Author

A Maui resident, Robert Smith has known Hawaii intimately for over 30 years. Until recently, he conducted hiking, backpacking and bicycle trips on the island for over 15 years. He has been a contributing editor for Hawaii Magazine for a dozen years and his features have appeared in numerous mainland newspapers.
