5.0 out of 5 stars great product for our wood duck boxes
We mounted this camera in one of our wood duck boxes, and it took our duck watching experience to a new level. The quality of the picture is good. The night vision is acceptable. We don't see much color, but the female wood duck doesn't have much color on her. We also get hooded mergansers and black bellied whistling ducks nesting in the box.

2.0 out of 5 stars works but color is washed out
This product does what it says and does it will. Quality of image is good. The ability to focus to a set distance works well for fixed applications.

I was dissapointed at the color quality. I was expecting B & W opperation in low light conditions but was expecting more vivid color when the lighting was good. Even in full daylight the color is washed out...

5.0 out of 5 stars great product for our wood duck boxes, November 7, 2009
This review is from: Hawk Eye Nature Cam, from Manufacturer Birdhouse Spy Cam
We mounted this camera in one of our wood duck boxes, and it took our duck watching experience to a new level. The quality of the picture is good. The night vision is acceptable. We don't see much color, but the female wood duck doesn't have much color on her. We also get hooded mergansers and black bellied whistling ducks nesting in the box.

We are using 200 feet of wire that we have put in PVC pipe and buried. We went to Walmart and bought the cheapest 18" TV that they sell. We use it just for "duck TV".

We see all sorts of nesting behavior that we would never see without the video camera in the box. We see the hen laying eggs and incubating the eggs. We see duck fights when two hens have laid eggs in the same box (very commmon on our lake).

When the eggs hatch, we know that the next day will be jump day. Usually the jump happens between 9 am and 11 am. On jump day we get our cup of coffee and sit on our patio to watch the show.

We've enjoyed a wonderful return on this investment.

Love this product . Works well, very easy to set up. I put one in a new kestrel box and a stupid squirrel took up residency instead of a bird. However the squirrel is quite entertaining. An it snores we can hear it LOL

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful view for 3 years, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Hawk Eye Nature Cam, from Manufacturer Birdhouse Spy Cam
This is a great camera, very compact and with a clear view for 3 years. But then the view was gone. A black fog developed over the central 90% of the view. This means the whole bird box needs to be re-built with the camera inside and the wire fed along the PVC pipe to the house. I think the camera should last longer than that. It is protected from rain. It is subject to hot and cold, but outside use is what it is intended for.

This camera worked great for viewing our mommy wood duck in our duck box. We watched and listened to her caring for her eggs, saw the babies when they hatched, and watched them leave the house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Paying for packaging, September 15, 2011

IMO this packaged deal is junk. The video and sound quality is acceptable for peeping on our little feathered friends, BUT. you can find this camera for cheaper with out the "name brand" packaging, and from what I can tell it's the same camera. Also the little set screw came lose for the focus ring while installing into a wood duck box, I couldn't find it in all the nesting material as it's tiny and now the camera won't focus at all and is useless. This camera really does deserve it's one star rating.

I bought this unit in early June and the video channel quit working around the third week of July. There was some noise on the video channel leading up to the point the entire unit quit working.

3.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable video, awful sound, January 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hawk Eye Nature Cam, from Manufacturer Birdhouse Spy Cam
I use this camera for keeping an eye on my nesting finches (Gouldian, Owl, Spice etc.) The video is a little better than expected, a little washed out but just fine for my purposes. However, I cannot listen to the birds as the audio has a terrible hum. I complained and must say that the customer service was excellent. The camera was replaced but, alas with the same problem. I have not seen any complaints from other customers and wonder whether I was just unlucky or whether sound was not important to others.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work!, March 18, 2011
This review is from: Hawk Eye Nature Cam, from Manufacturer Birdhouse Spy Cam
I was excited about having this camera mounted in my bluebird house that has had nests and babies every year. After mounting the camera, running the wire, and putting a hole in the house to get the cords to the TV I found the camera does not work. It is hooked up properly but nothing happens. It appears the camera is not getting power. Very disappointing. I am returning today.

2.0 out of 5 stars No Actual Birdhouse. Very misleading!, July 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hawk Eye Nature Cam, from Manufacturer Birdhouse Spy Cam
The item arrived very quickly. I was under the impression the actual birdhouse was part of the order and the camera was mounted inside as the picture shows. Not anywhere in the listing did it state the birdhouse was not included. Maybe the product works well but I won't know until I find an appropriate birdhouse, take it apart and mount the camera myself. The listing picture states "video birdhouse includes hawk eye nature cam". Very misleading. Where is my birdhouse??!
