5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, exotic, classic Susan Napier, April 17, 2005
This review is from: The Hawk and the Lamb (Hardcover)
Exactly what a Harlequin should be. Susan Napier has done it again with great characterization, an exotic setting, searing romance, intelligent diction, and a touch of comedy. My only regret is that I have not seen anything published by this author in years...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another good one by Ms. Napier., August 4, 2003
By A Customer
Back Cover description: The allure of a dangerous liaison fired Elizabeth Lamb's passions and nearly made her forget the real reason behind her visit to the South Pacific island. She thought only of J.J. Hawkwood. His dark sex appeal made her hunger for a taste of ecstasy, a touch of the forbidden. For under the eye of the hawk, nothing was safe-not Elizabeth's emotions, not her secrets, not her body....

Elizabeth is spying on the wrong Hawkwood. Also, she is trying to return some items her uncles weren't suppossed to have. The story moves, the author delivers another good plot and the characters are fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars constant clashes amplified sexual tension, April 25, 2011
25yo heroine, who works as a university research asst & manager of her eccentric uncles' rare bookshop, flies to a little island off of NZ due to both her beloved uncles' requests. They want her to 1.) return the valuable necklace that belongs to a wealthy family of that island that 1 of her uncles 'borrowed' 2.) take photos that prove that a certain married woman is having an affair with the married hotel owner (who her uncle pointed out to her at the airport). Based on her knowledge of cheating Hero, heroine manages to not be swayed by his charm & good looks as soon as they meet on the plane. Their fiery interactions get worse when Hero becomes suspicious of her spying on him with other women & asking him about his reclusive uncle. When Hero eventually finds out about his family's missing necklace, his response was not what heroine expected.Na

I liked this Napier book. She did very well in drawing out the main characters sexual tension. Their constant one-upmanship served to heighten their chemistry & expose their characters. I liked the heroine. She was funny in her innocence, determination, & pretense when she had no clue what was going on. She was even funny about her insecurities about her body & robust sexuality. She had courage to get her goals accomplished b/c she cared for her uncles. I also liked that she wasn't prideful when shown she was mistaken. I liked Hero's strong attraction to heroine's plus-sized body & how his self-control was undermined by heroine.

This was an emotionally-charged book, although not angtsy. Dialogue was snappy. Characters were portrayed well, with both their strengths & flaws. The couple love scenes in the book were just ok b/c of lack of details.

Recommended.
