I have a 25 foot sailboat and often go to the Channel Islands in So. Cal. I needed a reliable and inexpensive depth sounder to determine anchor scope. The NorCross Hawkeye works great. It has shoot thru technology or you can toss the transducer over the side. I picked a spot behind the keel in the center of the boat. I dipped the transducer into a jar of petroleum jelly and stuck it to the inside of the hull, and it shoots thru perfectly. I wish it remembered my settings after shut off and turn on, that it had a strap on the top so it could be suspended in a vertical position, that it had an depth alarm if I am dragging anchor, and that it had a plug to go to a 12 volt adapter. It shows grass so I can avoid spots where my anchor will not hold, and contour that may indicate rocks. Now that I have it, and it's a fish finder too, I'm thinking of taking up fishing. Seems to see a lot of fish.

Product was very well packed and made it on time. However using to fish from the bank is not very realistic. I would say that the best chances for fish with this would be from a dock or a boat. However, There is an attachment to angle the device so it points more out into the water instead of straight down that could make your chances from the bank better. There would have to be a little trial and error done befor you figure out what u like best from it. Very durable but make sure you hold on to the cord where it hooks into the machine while you through it, for it will fly off!!!!

Unit arrived quite awhile after it was expected, was not the unit I ordered. They manufacture at least two models, one with the larger sonar projected cone, and the cheaper model has a significantly narrower cone of projection. I ordered, and paid the higher price for the "better" model, and only upon reading the packaging (not the manual!), discovered I had paid a lot more for the lesser model. Multiple telephone calls to manufacturer to get it credited back to me, more yet to get the shipping reimbursed. I bought a Lowrance, elsewhere and love it.

Bought this for my husband - he loves using this on the canoe or kayak. Easy to use and at a fair price. We love it :)
