Product Description

Eliminate wireless dead spots with the new HWABN2 Hi-Gain Dual Band Wireless-N Range Extender. Complete with a 3 3dBi dipole antennas, the HWABN2 is sure to give your network the boost it needs to sustain a stable connection that ensures uninterrupted web surfing. To guarantee seamless integration with your wireless network, the HWABN2 is compatible with all Hawking Hi-Gain Dual Band Wireless Antennas. With the HWABN2 connected to your laptop, the network signal is magnified by the range extender. Acting like a wireless relay, it will expand your wireless range up to 2x stronger. It will strengthen the previously weak wireless signal and maximize your networks data transfer rate. This provides a stronger and more solid wireless connection to improve overall uploading and downloading speed. As a result, the user experiences faster speeds and less data lag while streaming or downloading multimedia content (video, music, etc.).

This highly efficient access point is the best choice for Small office / Home office users. The HWABN2 is compatible with Wireless 802.11 b/g/n wireless devices. It allows computers and network devices to gain wireless access in several modes throughout their network.

The HWABN2 allows you to effortlessly convert a standard network to a robust high performance network. While most standard wireless networks diminish significantly past a coverage radius of 200 feet (i.e. slow and unstable connections for intensive online activities, such as web surfing, video chatting, streaming, and gaming), the HWABN2 AP/Bridge's built-in power amplifier optimizes your wireless network by reducing Wi-Fi interference and boosting the output power up to 500mW. Combined with the Hawking Hi-Gain Range Extending Technology and its optional removable antennas, the HWABN2 is built to provide long range wireless coverage for the most range demanding environments.

How The HWABN2 Access Point/Bridge Pro Works

The HWABN2 is designed with multiple operating modes; Access Point, Ethernet Bridge, Bridge: Point-to-Point, Bridge: Point-to-Multiple Point and WDS Bridge. With hassle-free installation using your tablet, smartphone, Mac or Windows computer, the HWABN2 is sure to give your network the boost it needs to sustain a stable connection for an uninterrupted online experience.

Benefits of High Power Wireless Networking

High power wireless performance increases your wireless strength and provides better coverage than other wireless AP/Bridge in the market. In addition, the HWABN2 high power module reduces wireless interference and brings clear, high definition content to your wireless network, reducing lag and downloading time for your everyday activities. For additional wireless coverage, remove and replace the antennas for a quick and easy range upgrade.

Upgradable Antennas

With two removable antennas, the HAWABN1 has multiple upgrade options to accommodate more range-demanding environments. Simply remove the supplied antenna and connect your chosen antenna for an instant, painless upgrade. (Upgrade antennas are sold separately.)

Hassle-Free Installation

The HWABN2 is quick and easy to install using any Wi-Fi enabled device (i.e. tablet, smartphone, Mac or Windows computer). Hassle-free means there is no Ethernet cable or CD required for the installation. Simply power up the unit, use a Wi-Fi enabled device, and login into the setup page. This installation feature lets you configure and set up the HWABN2 within minutes.

There aren't a lot of wireless bridges on the market. I had tried a DLink DAP1522 and it basically didn't work at all (see my review). This Hawking model had better reviews, so I tried it. Ultimately, it did work, but there are some problems you should be aware of.

The set-up wizard provided on the CD did not work at all, so I went with the web client set up. The process is persnickity (you have to set up a static IP address to connect to the web client etc) but it is at least well explained in the manual. It was a quick set up, and the product appeared to work at first.

After a day I started losing my connection. It turned out that the reason is you MUST set your wireless router to use a single channel, not to change channels automatically. Anytime the router changes channels, the Hawking loses its connection. TO make matters worse, the "site survey" function in the Hawking is buggy - when you try to restablish a connection, your wireless network often doesn't seem to show up at all! THis means you have to do a hard reset of the Hawking device and start all over. And of course every time you want to access the web client you have to reset your IP address etc. It's quite annoying after a while.

The second thing I noticed was that I was only getting a "G" connection despite the fact that I have a 2.4GHz N router (the DLink DIR655). The ONLY way I was able to get the Hawking to connect in N mode was to set the DLink to ONLY function in N mode. Even if I told the Hawking to only use N, when I switched the DLink back to mixed G/N mode (to acommodate legacy devices in my home), the Hawking would revert to G mode! So, I basically have a G Bridge, not an N Bridge....assuming I want to have any N devices on my network. VERY ANNOYING!

This is the 4th one of these I am using on my network in Afghanistan. The only thing I have to say is if you are going to set up a wireless link using these, Hawkings says to set one up as an access point and the other as a bridge. When I did this I was getting 90-100% packet loss. I ended up setting them both for AD-Hoc so they would see only the other side. Once I did this I was able to get a 0 packet loss.

I would have given it 5 stars is the setup Hawkings showed worked, instead I had to fiddle around and eventually stumbled on the adhoc and got it working.

I am no network expert and I have had issues with network hardware in the past. This item just plain works as advertised. My router is in the basement on one end of the house and I needed coverage on the 2nd floor on the opposite end of the house. I pluged the unit into my ethernet and ran the software. It was up and running in less than 10 minutes. I can now stream HD video where I need it. I highly reccomend this product as it seems to work with other manufacturer's products with no issues.

I wanted to extend my wireless network from my home to another building 2,500 feet away (behind a few trees) . Following the advice / FAQ's on Hawkings website, I purchased two Hawking HiGain Directional Antenna, indoor/outdoor, 14dBi HAO14SDP and three Hawking HWABN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Access Point/Bridge (White).

I connected the first HWABN1 to my existing modem router, set it up as an access point and replaced one of the antennas on the HWABN1 with the HAO14SDP. So far so good, I was getting quite a strong signal up at the second building ( a laptop on the deck, but not inside) had no problem to connect.

I then set up ( per Hawking website recommendation ) the second HWABN1 as a bridge device, and plugged the third HWABN1 into the second as an access point. Back at my main building every thing set up easily and worked fine.

However as soon as I installed the second two HWABN1's at the remote building, and connected the second AO14SDP on the bridge device to receive the incoming signal, nothing worked.

I spent several frustrating days, checking and replacing cables and the AO14SDP ( that I thought might be defective) before calling support at Hawking. After 4 calls and a long run around, I learned that ( they had known for over two years that ) their two antenna devices such as the HWABN1 (and the HWREN1 range extender, which should in theory done the same job as the two HWABN1's) will only work in bridge mode if both antennas are replaced with two identical antennas. In other words I would have needed to have installed two directional antennas at the receiving end of my network.

Once I realized this was an access point that required a wired connection, and not a range extender, I've been thoroughly satisfied with the product. For those not familiar with networking terminology, the instructions don't exactly make it clear that you need to plug it into a wired Ethernet. (Luckily I had a place to plug it in.) Setup was trivial once I figured that out. It has been working flawlessly and has the perfect range to cover the half of my house where my wireless router can't go.
